Above the Mage!
Chapter 108 - 107: Wind Element
Chapter 108: Chapter 107: Wind Element
Ancient Capital.
This was the name of the Airship stationed in the city square of Bremen.
This was an old-fashioned Airship whose property rights belonged to the Sean Royal Family, purchased from the Igor Clan twenty years ago. Even though it was an old model from two decades ago, it still delivered an absolute sense of awe today.
To quickly quell the riots caused by the Hogan Earth Vein, the Sean Duchy had dispatched this Airship to Bremen, bringing along the Palace Mages. On its return journey, it carried many special goods unique to the Bremen region, including expensive commodities like tea and minerals. It also carried a few young people from Bremen who were heading to Saint Sean City to pursue their studies.
On the first day of the Dark Night Moon, Gaode boarded the Airship for the first time, traveling as Jelica’s servant.
At this moment, it had only been half a year since Gaode arrived in this world. And he was about to complete a Level 3 leap: from Hogan City to Bremen, and then from Bremen to the most prosperous city in the entire Sean Duchy—Saint Sean City.
Amidst a bout of shaking and the intense, rhythmic humming of the propellers, the Airship slowly lifted into the air.
Inside the cabin.
The tremendous thrust from the ascent pressed Gaode’s body tightly against the wall. The sensation of blood rushing to his head and his ears ringing felt both familiar and foreign.
After a while, Gaode gradually adapted to the feeling and looked down through the cabin window.
The people and buildings on the ground were slowly shrinking, turning into tiny black dots. The silhouette of Bremen gradually blurred, and the humming of the propellers sounded exceptionally loud in the air.
Soon, the city’s outline vanished entirely. All that could be seen next were continuous stretches of Primordial Forest, rolling hills, and winding rivers. Everywhere they passed was a sparsely populated wilderness. After all, compared to the Sean Duchy’s vast territorial area, developed cities with concentrated populations were simply too few.
Gaode watched the scenery from the window for a while, but the novelty soon wore off, and the repetitive landscape became monotonous and dull. He returned to his cabin.
Having boarded the Airship by taking the spot of Jelica’s maid, Gaode was assigned the lowest-grade cabin meant for servants, located on the very bottom deck. It was cramped and narrow, only large enough to fit a bed and a desk, leaving almost no room to even stand.
But Gaode was already very satisfied.
After all, this was an Airship belonging to the Sean Royal Family, not a commercial one meant for cargo or passengers. Besides, as someone hitching a free ride, just having a room at all was good enough, not to mention a single room.
Gaode took out a bottle of Basic Magic Potion and shoved his luggage under the bed.
The Ancient Capital was a massive Airship, over three hundred meters long and nearly seventy meters tall. Although it was an old model from decades ago, its cruising speed could still reach 150 kilometers per hour. At this speed, it would take less than ten hours to travel from Bremen to Saint Sean City.
The enormous Ancient Capital Airship comprised multiple sections: the isolation cabin holding the buoyancy gas bags, the magic power cabin for the propulsion system, the command cabin where the captain steered the Airship, the cargo cabin for the Storage of goods and supplies, the armory equipped with the Airship’s weapons, the maintenance cabin for repairs, and even an observation deck providing a better view.
Only after accounting for all these came the residential area. Yet even so, the passenger capacity of the Ancient Capital still exceeded a thousand people.
Apart from the three young masters and ladies of the Haines Clan, all the passengers on board were Mages from Saint Sean City. Moreover, they were all official Mages, not 0th Ring Mages holding the mere title of apprentices.
To Gaode, this felt like sharing a room with hundreds of fierce tigers. Therefore, he decided to stay put in his cabin until they reached their destination.
With this thought, Gaode downed the Basic Magic Potion in his hand and began his daily cultivation.
***
Gaode had thought the Airship journey would be smooth sailing. But facts proved that in this era, even the domain of the sky was fraught with danger.
BOOM!!
The Airship suddenly shook violently. A cacophony of CRASHING and CLATTERING echoed endlessly as objects fell, startling Gaode out of his meditation.
He opened his eyes, a look of astonishment in his gaze. "What’s going on? Did we hit strong turbulence?"
The next moment, urgent and shrill alarms blared inside the Airship, explaining everything.
"Attack, attack! Earth Vein Creatures attack! All personnel to your stations!"
Immediately after, Gaode heard hurried footsteps coming from the ceiling above. He quickly jumped out of bed, opened the cabin door, and ran out.
The corridor outside the cabin was not narrow; it was even more spacious than the cabin itself. Those staying on this deck were mostly staff members wearing crew uniforms, along with a few passengers who shared Gaode’s status as servants. ℯⅇ𝙡.
The crew members were jogging briskly, each rushing to their respective posts.
"It’s an adult Wind Element!"
"Why would this thing appear on this route?"
"Nine times out of ten, it escaped from the Hogan Earth Vein. Wind Elements are solitary creatures by nature. They move fast and drift with the wind, so they could end up anywhere!"
The crew members’ exasperated voices echoed down the hall.
"The Protective Magic Array of the Airship has been activated. Who knows how much more of the energy reserve this encounter will consume."
It seemed the danger wasn’t too great. From the crew’s tone, Gaode could tell they weren’t overly panicked; they were more frustrated about the energy reserves being wasted on the Protective Magic Array.
His heart instantly settled.
He looked out through the cabin window, trying his best to catch a glimpse of the outside. Although the deck he was on was at the very bottom of the Airship and his line of sight was severely restricted, he could still clearly see the body of the Wind Element.
That was because it was simply too massive, and it was currently circling the Airship.
Just as its name implied, the Wind Element’s body was composed of fierce gales, shaped like a giant, twisting tornado. It held a bow and arrow also formed of wind, occasionally letting out deafening roars. Every roar was accompanied by howling winds that churned the surrounding clouds into a boiling ocean.
"Dalabengba Bangdebei!"
The Wind Element babbled loudly, but Gaode couldn’t understand a single word. These were syllables unique to the language of the Wind Element, filled with primal wildness and power.
Even without understanding its language, Gaode could sense the furious power and aura radiating from it, as well as the sheer anger in its voice.
"Ares, this route belongs to us. You are the one who trespassed on our route; we did not invade your territory!"
Right after, Gaode heard a voice coming from their Airship. It was steady and calm, carrying an unquestionable majesty.
"Bengbalakabaxi!" The Wind Element was still extremely irritable and had no intention of backing down, offering a violent response.
The next moment, Gaode saw it draw back the giant bow woven from howling winds. The arrow, carrying a fierce and swift tornado, swept toward the Airship.
However, the Magic Pattern on the hull of the Airship seemed to come alive, surging with a layer of Magic Spirit Light at just the right moment. This Magic Spirit Light intertwined to form an indestructible Magic Shield that tightly enveloped the Airship.
The tornado arrow slammed into the Magic Shield on the Airship’s surface, triggering a deafening explosion. ℴ𝒗ⅇ𝑙.
RUMBLE!
Under this intense collision, the entire Airship shook violently, like a boat being battered by giant waves.
"You ignorant beast!"
Soon after, Gaode heard an angry rebuke from inside the Airship, filled with rage and dissatisfaction at the Wind Element’s provocation.
RUMBLE!
Gaode couldn’t clearly see the specific details of what happened next through the small cabin window. He could only see a kaleidoscope of lights flashing incessantly outside. Various bursts of Magic Spirit Light clashed fiercely, forming a dazzling battlefield in the sky.
Amidst this intense battle, the Airship swayed continuously, as if it might plummet at any second. Every jolt brought Gaode’s heart into his throat.
He didn’t have a parachute, nor had he mastered any Flying Skill. If the Airship really crashed, his only outcome would be death.
This feeling of having his life and death in someone else’s hands made Gaode feel exceptionally uneasy.
