Chapter 2912: Chapter 2913: Sudden Enlightenment
"I am the emperor, my words are like gold and jade, how can they change so easily?" Tang Yin asked, making it clear that he was unwilling to change his plans.
Bai Ruozhu gave Jiang Yichun a look, suggesting he try to persuade Tang Yin privately. Doing so in public would likely make it even harder to change his mind.
"We’ll set off early the day after tomorrow. I hope you all can lend a helping hand." Tang Yin said.
After everyone dispersed, Jiang Yichun discussed with Tang Yin late into the night but ultimately couldn’t convince him to change his mind.
"I’ve thought about it, Little Dengdeng and aunt shouldn’t go to the battlefield. You, Ao Song, will stay with them. I’ll accompany the Emperor with the Astrologer." Jiang Yichun said.
"No way!" Bai Ruozhu immediately protested, "Your injury hasn’t fully healed, your arm isn’t completely recovered. How much can you contribute? If danger arises, are you supposed to handle it yourself?"
Jiang Yichun chuckled bitterly, "So, in my wife’s eyes, I’m that useless, huh? Even with one arm, I can control water."
"Controlling water isn’t endless, I know your power. How long can you sustain it? No, I won’t agree to this." Bai Ruozhu’s stance this time was exceptionally determined.
"Then what do you propose? How do I explain not going to the Emperor? Should I stay and guard the family while you head to the frontline?" he asked.
It’s not impossible, but Jiang Yichun wouldn’t agree to it.
The two were silent; there was indeed no middle ground at the moment.
"Forget it, let’s rest and discuss it with dad and mom tomorrow." Bai Ruozhu suggested.
"That’s all we can do." Jiang Yichun didn’t insist this time.
The night passed without words, the morning found them silent again. This journey wasn’t meant to be significant, yet now there’s a Thousand-eyed Monster with immeasurable demon power backing the Yueqiu Tribe.
Even the Astrologer and Ao Song dare not be careless; what if the others get attacked by the Thousand-eyed Monster?
After breakfast, Jiang Yichun gathered everyone together, Little Dengdeng and Xiaoyu were also present.
Xiaoyu had already mourned his grandpa and buried him. With Little Dengdeng’s cheerful presence over the past couple of days, much of the sadness in his eyes had dissipated, and there’s even occasional laughter on his face now.
Except, he’s still hiding his wings, it appears as a small hump, making those unaware feel pity.
Such a good kid, how did he end up with a hunchback?
The Luo Family learned Bai Ruozhu and the others initially planned to adopt a child for her, increasing their attention toward Xiaoyu. But Bai Ruozhu worried that she’d grow attached to Xiaoyu, knowing he’d eventually leave, so she informed Chushuang to subtly mention this to the Luo Family.
The Luo Family is aware now and feels even more compassionate toward this child.
"His Majesty will depart tomorrow morning, I’d like to accompany him along with the Astrologer, the rest of you stay here and we’ll return to the Capital together once it’s over." Jiang Yichun said.
"I’ll go with you." Gao Zhou immediately said.
Bai Ruozhu felt it was better with Gao Zhou accompanying, so she didn’t object.
"No way, father, you’re too old, take some rest." Jiang Yichun opposed.
Gao Zhou erupted in anger, "You little brat, what are you saying? Who’s too old? Who’s too old?"
The serious matter became humorous due to the antics between these two, lightening the atmosphere, causing everyone to laugh.
Xiaoyu glanced curiously at Gao Zhou, then at Jiang Yichun, pondering how they could interact this way; he would never dare speak to his father like that.
The Astrologer suddenly spoke, "What dangers might we face accompanying His Majesty to inspect the front line?"
"The Thousand-eyed Monster and the Yueqiu Tribe might join forces to attack us." Ao Song replied.
"The greatest threat comes from the Thousand-eyed Monster, right?" The Astrologer continued, "Even if some don’t go, the Thousand-eyed Monster will strike when he sees fit. Although he won’t act hastily now since he hasn’t gathered enough eyes to cover the sky."
Ao Song nodded in agreement, "Before, it was because Madam Sun revealed his weakness, forcing him to act suddenly. But I wonder why he didn’t eliminate Madam Sun directly to silence her, instead of threatening her by killing Ding Xiang?"
This prompted the crowd to think deeply, and suddenly the Luo Family spoke up.
"I’ve heard a story once, about a powerful demon. But it has a nemesis and can’t show its true form. It tries to grow stronger by selecting people as servants to achieve its goals."
The Luo Family continued, "In the story, the demon grants some of its power to servants, making them stronger than ordinary people, helping achieve its aims. If a servant is killed, the demon’s power returns but is weakened."
"Where did you hear this story?" Chushuang curiously asked.
"Your brother told me before he passed, said it’s a ghost and demon mythology from Fusang, told to amuse me. I used to say I was scared and asked him to stop, but regret not paying more attention." said the Luo Family with slight regret.
"There was an Astrologer determined to defeat it, sending people to Fusang to hunt its servants, reducing its power significantly, then sealed it away."
Bai Ruozhu’s eyes lit up, "Could the story Uncle mentioned be related to the Thousand-eyed Monster? Has he discovered it long ago? Does part of its power reside in Madam Sun, making her adept at poison, so it doesn’t want her dead?"
"That means Madam Sun must escape!" Jiang Yichun suddenly realized, "I’ll go keep an eye on her."
He left hastily, followed by the Astrologer. Ao Song consulted Bai Ruozhu briefly and followed as well.
"Ruozhu, you go help too. We’ll manage here with your aunt." Chushuang said.
"Okay." Bai Ruozhu nodded to them and hurriedly followed.
Gao Zhou stomped in place, "What do you mean, suspecting I’m useless?"
Chushuang laughed, "You’re able, just differ in expertise, not inclined to handle demons."
"You’re the experts then?" Gao Zhou retorted.
Chushuang gave him a glance, "Go play with the children, don’t disturb your sister-in-law and me discussing demon defenses."
Feeling defeated, Gao Zhou begrudgingly went to entertain Dengdeng. How did his journey as a transmigrator lead him to mere childcare?
Jiang Yichun’s group quickly arrived at the prison, where Captain Niu was surprised to see them, "Here to interrogate Madam Sun?"
"Is she here?" Jiang Yichun inquired.
"We’ve kept tight surveillance, she’s here." Captain Niu glanced towards the jail, spotting Madam Sun disheveled, sitting deep within the prison cell, avoiding the guards.
