Chapter 2907 - 2908: Tampering with the Hairpin
Chapter 2907: Chapter 2908: Tampering with the Hairpin
"I’m quite thick-skinned, you know, and didn’t shy away, just kept staring, and ended up making him unhappy, giving me a huge eye-roll." Bai Ruozhu said, laughing at herself.
The Luo Family couldn’t help but chuckle, "What happened then?"
"Then he persistently chased me; I didn’t want to pay him any mind. So, he guessed that I liked looking at his face and tried to win me over with his looks." Bai Ruozhu joked.
Ao Song got interested too, "Did you take the bait?"
"I definitely took the bait; I’m a face enthusiast, and I had no resistance to him." Bai Ruozhu said.
"A face enthusiast?" the Luo Family asked curiously.
"It means someone who likes looking at beautiful people, not limited to men but also pretty women — basically anyone with a good-looking face is worth a gaze." Bai Ruozhu explained.
The Luo Family laughed, "Then I’m a face enthusiast too."
Ao Song thought for a moment, "I might not be, Sangta’s got scars all over."
"Aside from the scars, he has a unique charm, doesn’t he?" Speaking of scars, Bai Ruozhu stood up for Sangta.
The three women chatted with interest, and weren’t worrying about the barrier anymore. The Astrologer soon arrived, and Ao Song quickly went up to explain the situation to him.
The Luo Family privately asked Diao Shengyan, "Is this the Sangta she was talking about? No scars here."
"No, that’s the Astrologer, Fusang’s leading Yin Yang Master." Bai Ruozhu chuckled, realizing she wasn’t the only one noticing the subtle chemistry; even her aunt had picked up on it.
"I think they make a good couple," the Luo Family whispered.
Bai Ruozhu nodded, affectionately linking arms and saying, "I agree with Auntie’s taste."
The Luo Family talked more today, smiling much more too.
The Astrologer and Ao Song discussed how to break the barrier. After a while, the Astrologer looked at the Luo Family, saying, "Do you have anything special on you? The barrier specifically targets you, meaning the key is likely on you."
The Luo Family thought for a while, "Don’t think so."
She touched her hairpin, "Aside from clothes, I don’t have any jewelry, only this silver hairpin that Aqing made for me by hand."
In her hair was a single silver hairpin, simple in style yet polished to perfection. Uncertain if it was finely crafted years ago or worn smooth from countless touches over the years.
"May I have a look?" the Astrologer asked.
The Luo Family took out the hairpin, her hair falling down, and Bai Ruozhu quickly retrieved a vermillion hairpin from Space, "Aunt, use this for now; I’ll help you with your hair."
"I can do it myself," the Luo Family declined, deftly using the vermillion hairpin to pin her hair.
She didn’t look aged, appearing as she did twenty years ago, her hair still dense and black, easily styled into a bun that looked lovely.
"It’s this," the Astrologer said, eyeing the hairpin, "I think the array was not placed by your husband but someone secretly tampered with your hairpin, knowing it would never leave you."
Ao Song quickly said, "Could it be that Thousand-eyed Monster?"
"I only take it off at night when sleeping, and put it back on every morning; it’s been by my side all these years. Who wants to trap me?" the Luo Family asked in astonishment.
Bai Ruozhu exchanged glances with the others; she didn’t want to mention the Thousand-eyed Monster to the Luo Family, not wishing to scare her.
"We’re investigating this too, and we’ll surely get to the bottom of it." Bai Ruozhu said.
The Luo Family nodded, "How do we remove whatever’s been done to the hairpin?"
"It’s not easy; I know this hairpin is significant to you, afraid it might get damaged." The Astrologer took out a box, placing the hairpin inside, "Let’s see if this helps."
He attempted to approach with the box containing the hairpin, yet couldn’t advance at all.
"Even this magic-insulating storage box won’t work," he frowned.
Bai Ruozhu took the box, "Let me try isolating it with magic."
She secured the box in her sleeve, subtly sending it into Space, and tried walking forward.
Surprisingly, she made it out smoothly.
The Luo Family celebrated, hurriedly following, "Thank you, Ruozhu."
Bai Ruozhu seemingly retrieved the wooden box from her sleeve, returning it to the Luo Family.
"Finally out, let’s go." Bai Ruozhu, linking arms, led the Luo Family onward.
As the Luo Family walked ahead, surprised cries suddenly erupted from behind. Everyone turned to see the street behind them enveloped in white light, forming a white whirlpool sucking figures in.
No, perhaps not figures, but wandering souls.
"What is that?" Ao Song exclaimed.
"Maybe a teleportation door to Cliff Village, or perhaps Hell’s Gate pulling them away," the Astrologer said.
The Luo Family covered her mouth, "Did I cause their demise?"
Her voice trembled, and Bai Ruozhu quickly grabbed her hand, "Don’t dwell on that, they go to Cliff Village every month and continue living just the same."
"Even if they reach the Underworld, there’s the chance to be reincarnated; it’s good for them," Ao Song added.
The Luo Family remained somewhat despondent, too kind-hearted, fearing others might be harmed because of her.
Worried changes could arise, Bai Ruozhu quickly guided the Luo Family onto the prepared horse carriage heading to the Guest House.
Somewhere in the mountain, a man in white suddenly frowned, startling the Dream Demon beside him.
"Master, what’s wrong?" the Dream Demon cautiously asked.
The man squinted, "The Luo Family’s barrier is broken; she’s gone through."
"Her hairpin never leaves her; how could it..." the Dream Demon asked in confusion.
"Interesting, someone helped her take the hairpin out." The man suddenly licked his rosy lips, revealing a tongue quite long, slightly forked, as the Dream Demon watched in marvel.
The man chuckled again, "Didn’t expect such a thing, must be delectable; I’m quite lucky."
The Dream Demon didn’t understand, "What thing?"
Suddenly the man’s face cooled, quick enough to stun anyone.
He glared at the Dream Demon, "Get lost, who allowed you to look at me like that?"
With a shout of "Get lost," the Dream Demon wailed, flying backward, rolling downward toward the Foot of the Mountain, clutching her head and yelling, "Master, I won’t dare again."
...
Bai Ruozhu returned with the Luo Family, and upon hearing the news, Chushuang almost sprinted out to meet them.
Seeing the Luo Family, she cried immediately, as did the Luo Family who couldn’t speak for sobbing.
"You look so much like Aqing; it feels like seeing Aqing," the Luo Family choked out.
"I can sense my brother’s bloodline in you," Chushuang said, "My brother wouldn’t have been gravely injured escaping Merfolk Island for me and later died in Zhongyuan."
The Luo Family held her hand, "Your brother worried most about you before he died; now you’re well, he would certainly be happy."
