Chapter 2880: Chapter 2881: Playing Dumb and Pretending to Be Crazy
Ao Song nodded, "What kind of Immortal Treasure could it be? Most likely a naturally formed wonder."
Bai Ruozhu dipped her finger in water and wrote on the table: "Could it bring wandering souls back?"
Ao Song mimicked her actions and wrote: "Not possible, that would become a gate to the underworld. How could it be!"
Bai Ruozhu also thought it was too eerie, but then again, wouldn’t there be many souls of those slaughtered near the Luo Family?
Right, why hadn’t she thought of that!
She hastily wrote another line: "Could it be related to the Luo Family of Xunyang City?"
Ao Song pondered silently, while Astrologer wrote: "Even the most special place has an Array Eye. If found, everything becomes clear."
"Let’s find an excuse to go out," Bai Ruozhu said softly.
As everyone was contemplating, someone walked over, muttering something with a tilted head. Drool dripped from one side of his mouth, yet he grinned foolishly at a wandering soul.
"Uncle, want candy, want candy," he shouted childishly like a child.
Bai Ruozhu recalled Li Shufang’s words; this was probably the little fool Li Shufang mentioned.
If his mouth weren’t crooked, he wouldn’t look too bad; marrying him wasn’t a misfortune for Li Shufang.
As a habit from being a doctor, Bai Ruozhu squinted to examine him closely, wondering if his silly condition was congenital or acquired, hoping there was a chance to cure.
Upon close inspection, she discovered something startling.
The child wasn’t silly at all! But he faked it so well!
He seemed under sixteen, and could earn an award for acting in modern times.
The little fool beamed as he approached their Tree House, and Bai Ruozhu signaled Jiang Yichun, "He’s coming to us."
"Is this child sick?" Bai Ruozhu deliberately said loudly, then walked out of the Tree House, with Jiang Yichun following behind.
"No idea whose kid he is, Madam, your medical skills are good, see if you can treat him," Jiang Yichun cooperatively said.
Bai Ruozhu silently gave him a sideways look, but couldn’t deny their excellent teamwork; she only needed to glance for him to know her thoughts.
"You’re soaked; go dry off. Sister has candy," Bai Ruozhu said to the little fool.
"Candy, candy!" He jumped, clapping his hands.
Thus, he was brought to the Village Chief’s Tree House while the wandering souls outside seemed worried but did not follow inside. Bai Ruozhu also noticed they seemed unable to enter any rooms.
Once inside, the little fool wiped the drool from his mouth, his foolish grin vanished straight away.
"Aren’t you surprised?" he asked softly.
Bai Ruozhu smiled, "My husband didn’t lie; I am a doctor and can tell whether you’re silly or not."
He appeared skeptical, "You’re so capable; even immortals couldn’t tell."
Ao Song hurriedly gestured to silence, then pointed to the table, dipped in water, and wrote: "Don’t speak, someone is eavesdropping."
The little fool nodded and suddenly called out foolishly again, "I want candy, more candy!"
Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched; he was a sure winner for an acting award!
He immediately wetted his finger to write: "I’ve been faking it since I accidentally overheard the family head and the immortal speak as a child. Those so-called immortals are clearly demons!"
Ao Song was shocked, hurriedly wrote: "I didn’t sense any Demon Qi."
"I don’t know, but he demands the villagers worship him daily, burn incense sent by him, yet never give us food," the little fool showed anger. "Villagers are all confused by him; even my parents don’t believe me. Not wanting to be controlled, I’ve only faked being silly."
"What kind of monster is he?" Bai Ruozhu wrote while actually pulling a small packet of candy from her sleeve to give him.
She thought eating candy might make a difference and wasn’t expecting this; the young man had tears in his eyes upon receiving candy.
He quickly opened it, ate a piece, then lowered his head and said, "I’ve had this once, many years ago."
Here, resources were scarce, villagers lived miserably, yet refused to leave, solely for departed loved ones was unreasonable.
They still had descendants, some young children, surely must consider them. So clinging to the deceased, they couldn’t neglect the living?
Unless there was something else capturing their interest.
The youth’s previous writing had dried, he continued to write: "Those outside were our relatives from the massacre, the immortal said they live worry-free with the immortal family if we faithfully worship him, we too will become immortals after death and live in the immortal’s village."
He scoffed while writing: "Dead means dead, what becoming immortal, living worry-free, can’t even live well now, why believe death would be good?"
Bai Ruozhu looked at him; despite his age, his thinking was clear, no wonder he feigned foolishness for so long.
"The time I saw him, he was like us, but being so small, I saw inside his sleeve, his arm had many eyes," the youth’s hand trembled, body shuddered, clearly fearing the memory.
"Many eyes?" Astrologer nearly cried out.
The youth immediately nodded, "I wasn’t mistaken."
Astrologer paused silently, wrote on the table: "The Thousand-eyed Monster, Fusang has legends about him, killing and stealing eyes, attaching to oneself; if gaining a hundred, power becomes terrifying, I might not defeat. Due to its evil, Yin Yang Master families jointly eradicated it, hasn’t appeared for years."
"So he fled to Tu City," Ao Song wrote on the table, "He being cautious, doesn’t kill indiscriminately, so Demon Qi is faint. Plus he makes villagers worship him, incense keeps Demon Qi completely suppressed and boosts Demon Power."
"But Thousand-eyed Monster doesn’t control wandering souls," Astrologer wrote.
"He must’ve discovered this place’s peculiarities and used them," Bai Ruozhu said.
Footsteps echoed beneath the Tree House, followed by an anxious woman’s voice: "Zhao Shu, naughty again, Village Chief says not to disturb the guests’ rest."
"That’s my mother," the youth whispered, "I must go, please help me."
He suddenly knelt, solemnly bowing, then stood, returning to his foolish demeanor, and went out.
"Mother, candy, candy!" Drool flowed again, mingling with the sweetness of Osmanthus sugar.
Bai Ruozhu also exited the Tree House, smiling at Zhao Shu’s mother, saying: "This child isn’t congenitally foolish, it’s a head injury with clotted blood, curable."
Zhao Shuniang looked overjoyed, "Madam, can you really cure it?"
