Chapter 367: Chapter 367: Won (7)

Seraphina Sterling smiled sweetly, "Instructor, I choose you!"

Huh—

The thirty-six instructors stared at Seraphina Sterling in astonishment. ’That girl has a death wish! Is she out of her mind? To actually pick the Chief Instructor? She’s asking for a world of hurt! She really is!’

’Why is Seraphina Sterling so reckless? We all get that she wants revenge, but she has to be realistic! This monster of an instructor isn’t just for show. You can tell just from watching him practice his punches! If one of his fists landed on her slender frame, she’d probably cough up blood!’

"Choose me? Are you sure? I won’t be going easy on you. I’m afraid I’ll make you cry!" The instructor glanced at Seraphina Sterling, offering the reminder with mock concern.

"Isn’t this what you wanted? If I didn’t choose you, wouldn’t my suffering for the past half-month have been for nothing?" A faint smile touched Seraphina Sterling’s lips. ’This man is a cunning fox—strategic and bold, every bit the hardened soldier. He correctly gambled on my competitive nature, on my refusal to take a loss lying down. For the past half-month, he’s been trying to break me. If I fought back, he’d have an excuse to punish me. But since I never did, he couldn’t find a reason, which is why he orchestrated this whole spectacle today.’

"You’re the one who chose this! So don’t come to regret it. I won’t be holding back!" The instructor didn’t refute Seraphina Sterling’s words, which was a tacit admission.

The other instructors felt their hearts go cold. They’d thought it was a windfall, a golden opportunity falling right into the laps of lowly instructors like them. They never imagined the Chief Instructor knew all along that this student wouldn’t pick any of them.

So much for that opportunity. At least they would get to see the Chief Instructor in action! It was just a shame the girl was only a freshman; she wouldn’t even be a proper warm-up for him. All they were going to see was a one-sided beatdown, which meant they’d never get to witness his true skills.

"Begin!"

Seraphina Sterling did not hold back. The instant the command was given, she lunged forward with a punch. The students who had been worried about her saw the viciousness of the blow, and their anxieties vanished in an instant. ’Turns out she’s an expert! No wonder she dared to go up against the instructor!’

The students were just watching the spectacle and couldn’t appreciate the technique involved, but the other instructors had been formally trained by the military. When they saw the punch Seraphina Sterling threw, they knew this girl had some real skill.

Her opponent, however, still looked relaxed. He clearly wasn’t taking Seraphina Sterling seriously, attacking at his own leisurely pace.

Seraphina Sterling, for her part, was also completely at ease. She had waited a long time for this moment and wasn’t about to act rashly. "Ethan Thompson, no matter how you slice it, you’re a soldier. Even with your high rank, you’re still supposed to be a servant of the people! Tormenting me like this for your sister’s sake—isn’t that a violation of military discipline?"

"I am the instructor, and you are the cadet! It’s perfectly normal for me to discipline you. This has nothing to do with anything else!" Ethan Thompson’s casual demeanor vanished. He was serious now, and he snapped out a low leg sweep.

Seraphina Sterling nimbly leaped, stomping down on his shin and using the leverage to aim a punch right at the corner of his mouth. "You know damn well whether this is about discipline or a personal vendetta! Don’t you ever say your motto is ’to serve the people’ again! The words make me sick. A Colonel who can’t even tell right from wrong! You’re a disgrace to the millions of soldiers in Apex!"

Ethan Thompson was done trading barbs. He was getting serious now. ’That last punch from Seraphina Sterling nearly caught the corner of my mouth! I absolutely can’t treat this person like some college freshman.’

As Ethan Thompson got serious, Seraphina Sterling focused her full attention. ’Ethan Thompson is an expert; I’ve known that for a while. In a duel between masters, the slightest oversight can lead to defeat!’
