A Villain's Way of Taming Heroines

Chapter 570 Seraphina is Indeed Clever - III

“And you just believed him? What if he’s dangerous?” Seraphina felt her temples throbbing.

“Dangerous… there’s nothing we could do if he was,” they replied, shrugging indifferently. “We couldn’t stop him; we just went about our business.”

This resigned yet truthful answer left Seraphina speechless. The attitude of the Western civilians towards extraordinary beings was peculiar to her—they revered them greatly, yet somehow seemed not to.

“Ah, Boss Fenrir, if you’re talking about his identity… I have a clue,” said one of the people who had also talked with the black-haired youth.

“Recently, there’s been a rumor in the lower city about an adventurer who takes on Executioner commissions for civilians. He’s very efficient, only takes his due reward, never extorts anyone, and hasn’t done anything untoward.”

Seraphina was taken aback. “Is there really such a good person?”

She had once harbored idealistic views about adventurers, imagining them as heroic figures. But upon embarking on her journey, she discovered that adventurers were, in reality… a mixed lot.

Unlike outright villains, they were inconsistent and did not align with her notion of ‘good people.’ She found it hard to believe there could be such an adventurer.

“We didn’t believe it either, so we thought it was just a rumor… but now it seems there might be some truth to it — Oh, right, this adventurer called himself Faust.”

“Faust?”

The corridor erupted in murmurs. “Isn’t that the demon who crawled out of the Abyss?”

“I heard it’s the soul of an ancient dynasty’s general!”

“No, it’s the spirit of a cursed alchemical artifact!”

While they argued over the tales of Faust, our clever Miss Seraphina slowly furrowed her brows.

Faust… Faust. Enjoy exclusive chapters from empire

Why does this name sound so familiar?

Where have I heard—

In the next instant, her pupils contracted to pinpoints. With a loud “bang,” the corridor window shattered, and Seraphina’s figure vanished from the hallway.

Under the bewildered and astonished gazes of those resting in the courtyard, Seraphina anxiously scanned her surroundings, her nose twitching repeatedly. The power of the Head of Wind expanded in all directions, yet she couldn’t catch even the faintest trace.

As time passed, the shock, delight, panic, urgency… on her face gradually transformed into calmness.

“Of course, I can’t find him…”

She released the tension in her chest, sighing with a mixture of regret and relief, and then plopped down on the ground.

“…Ansel.”

She instinctively grasped her index and middle fingers, adorned with two rings, and stomped her foot in a blend of happiness and frustration.

“What am I supposed to do with you!”

Miss Ravenna, perched on Ansel’s shoulder, sipped her tiny coffee and glanced up at him. “And this disguise of yours… it’s utterly pointless. I still don’t understand why you insist on maintaining the identity of Faust.”

“You talk as if the whole world knows Faust is Ansel of Hydral.” Ansel couldn’t help but laugh.

” Seri might not remember that I am Faust, right?”

“Hmph, did you see her expression, utterly perplexed as to why she can’t stand up to you?” Ravenna scoffed. “Even without Faust as a reminder, she would soon realize who you are.”

“So, Venna, can you stand up to me?”

“Am I not firm enough? Do you have some peculiar fetish, Ansel?” Ravenna glared coldly at him. “Is stepping on you not sufficient? Do I need to escalate to throwing a cup of coffee in your face?”

She shook her tiny cup as she spoke, making the threat with such an adorable, petite gesture.

“Being assertive isn’t the same as being vicious, Venna,” Ansel shook his head. “No one likes a vicious girl.”

“When it comes to intimacy, I never do anything you don’t like,” Ravenna responded without hesitation. “If I do it, it means you like it.”

“You’re getting a bit too arrogant.”

“So what? You don’t like it?”

Ansel couldn’t help but laugh joyfully, and Ravenna gave his cheek a light pinch. “Stop laughing. You dragged me out here, and you still have the nerve to laugh.”

“You were going to mold in that inn, Venna.”

Ansel looked at the labyrinthine streets of the lower city, standing still but with a slight smile. “It’s better to get some fresh air, isn’t it?”

“In a place where you can’t even see the sun? You’re too kind to me, dear little Ansel.”

Despite her words, Ravenna began to help Ansel search for the person who issued the commission. It was a small task that Ansel could have easily completed on his own, so he was indeed giving Ravenna something to do intentionally.

“With so many laborers living here, you want me to… hmm?”

Ravenna paused, her eyes narrowing slightly at something she saw. “Never mind when the laborers get off work, but shouldn’t they not all look so terrified after work?”

“That means something must have happened to scare them,” Ansel’s smile grew even wider. “Hmm… who could have done such a thing?”

“…”

Ravenna looked up; she had already sensed a team of extraordinary individuals making their way from the upper city to this dark lower city.

She rubbed her forehead and, using a flat, emotionless tone, replied:

“Yes, who could have done it? It’s just impossible~ to~ guess.”

Author’s Note:

Writing a novel is way harder than I thought… Lately, I’ve had zero stockpiles, frantically writing just to keep up TT I still have to work during the day, going to bed at like 2 or 3 AM and waking up around 8 AM. I feel like I’m practically cultivating immortality here…

Last night, I had a moment of clarity: For the sake of my health and so you all can keep enjoying fun stories instead of getting a literal dead author, I can’t keep this up!

This weekend, I’m ditching all my plans to get back on a normal sleep schedule and focus on writing. My goal is to stockpile about a week’s worth of chapters. Starting next week, I’m going to bed early and waking up early! Ansel’s revolution needs early mornings, and so do I, haha.
