Chapter 167: The Isle of Silent Remants

Fixing the brim of his fedora, Murphy came out of the secret path and walked toward the gateway to look outside the island.

While Dante found the slippery barnacles that took their place inside the ship.

In a while, Silas awakened from his sleep and came out, only to find Murphy smoking a cigarette and looking outside at the island. Dante also stopped behind him and announced. "I have found them all."

Murphy simply pulled the cigarette from his lips and slowly turned toward him, maintaining his cold expressions as he spoke. "Well done, take Silas with you and wipe them out. Also, do not get them in contact with the sea. Afterward, we will start building the ship."

Silas took a step forward and pulled out the mystical charm, given to him by Miss Sage. "Mr. Law, this is an artifact I found inside the ship, maybe it can be used to escape?"

Murphy stared at the mystical charm and threw the cigarette into the ash-grey sand and focused on the charm. "Interesting, we can use this, but before that, you should perform your Descent on this island, and I’ll need to fix my spirituality too."

Silas glanced at Dante, then back to Murphy as he thought something for a long moment. "Mr. Law, I have important information to tell."

"Yes?"

"We need to escape soon before the next 14 hours; if I’m not wrong, then we may have been here for at least three to four hours."

Murphy blinked once before pointing a finger at Dante. "Well then, let’s get to work, Dante."

The cleaner shivered as he stared at the finger that didn’t seem less than a gun in his eyes as he quickly rushed toward the woods. "Understood, I have grabbed the things to fix the ship. I know everything about this ship; rest assured, sir."

Murphy finally stepped forward, coming out of the ship into the empty island. "Guard the ship, Mr. Silas."

"But Mr. Law."

Murphy gave him a casual nod to his fedora, then pointed a finger toward Dante again, which terrified him once more as he stepped back. "I need to find out more of this island; keep Dante safe until then. If something occurs, then use the fireworks to call out me, by that time, fix the ship with him, and perform your Descent."

With a flick of his finger, he went deeper into the Isle of Silent Remants. ’I need to find the artifact soon to anchor myself. It must be somewhere here.’

Silas looked back at Dante, who stared at the Detective’s fading figure, and a thought crossed over his mind. ’Okay... that guy is a lunatic, but he is certainly better for me than those sons of bi—pirates if I want to survive.’

He heaved a sigh of relief as suddenly a spider dropped onto his face that was a large monster for him as he screamed louder than a lion’s roar. "Oh my God!!!"

Silas approached him and grabbed the spider away from his face and put it back into a nearest wall effortlessly. "That’s just a spider..."

Dante darted his eyes from the spider to Silas and pointed a heavy finger at the large insect. "THE HELL YOU MEAN JUST A SPIDER? Look at this dogshit that’s anything but a spider!! And why the hell did you put it there? Throw it out of the ship, man!!"

Silas rolled his eyes slightly before grabbing the spider from the wall and letting it walk away into the sand. As a thief who had the dignity of a snake, he knew better to not get scared of small things, especially when it was just a spider, when he had learned to walk over snakes. "Your situation seems worse."

"Sorry for having survival instincts." He took a long breath as he assured himself after seeing the spider walk away. "Half of the world fears spiders, not just me."

"Half? That won’t even be 20%"

"More than that actually." Dante defended himself and turned toward the woods. "Let’s fix the ship before he returns."

In a while, they took all the barnacles out and prepared to cut the wood and repair the ship.

Murphy, however, stepped inside the threshold of the Isle of Silent Remants. A place surrounded with thick trees and roots emerging from the very land.

As he stopped near a glowing mushroom, the place surrounding him erupted with a strange sick scent of rotting wood.

He followed the lines of the strange green mushroom that guided him toward a narrow pathway crafted with a faint yellow street that reached toward a city built deep inside the island.

Murphy’s expression shifted as he realized that it was another abandoned place like the City of Light. His gaze lay upon the tall stone pillar where something was written in an unusual script that didn’t seem to quite fit the current world.

Although these stone pillars had no ceiling, there was something beneath them. They were planted close to each other, creating a chamber that could have been almost ignored.

He traced a hand over one of the planted pillars, but all his hand felt was a sudden urge to smash it down. He quickly pulled away and took a few steps back before focusing his gaze into an archway.

A vast altar was built at the center of another pillar, but that stone was different now, it seemed as if that thing was built recently, unlike other pillars that showed the history of this dead city.

He tilted his head toward the endless sky. It was covered in a thick, cosmic mist, hiding the endless stars behind the curtain of crimson fog, only leaving some of the space to gaze upon the world above the earth.

Unlike other days when he had previously looked at the stars, he felt a strange nostalgia, but when he looked at the same stars today, he felt uneasiness behind that facade.

Two stars, only two stars were enough to catch his attention. They had a strange ring around them that he believed was merely thick stardust, but as he squinted his eyes to look upon it clearly, he finally saw through the fog. It was separated from these two stars, appearing as the protective blanket to hide the eyes behind.

Of course, he noticed it...

Murphy quickly averted his gaze toward a pillar as he understood the weight and the mistake he was going to make again. It was... Deity’s eyes.

’Could it be that it’s the Deity sleeping beneath the sea?’ He pondered and hurriedly moved toward the stone pillar and stood directly before him.

The pillar was carved in dense letters, holding forbidden knowledge that was hidden behind the bloodstained letters. The history of the city had been buried behind that blood, which Murphy clearly understood.

Just then, he noticed a drawing of a hand on the center of the ground where the pillar stood. There was a strange conspicuous mark that pointed toward the pillar.

Behind the cold act of Murphy, Mo Fei dragged his consciousness back in, understanding the situation, while Murphy worked well to handle the problems, but at that moment, Mo Fei stopped the obsession of the Detective and finally chose to think about it since he was currently in the domain of a God.

If he simply moved the pillar without caring about the consequences, then he might go mad in seconds if anything secret was behind it.

Although he couldn’t ignore his own fading spirituality.

’If I forcefully interfere in the dreams, then can I still truly return as myself?’ Mo Fei thought seriously as Murphy finally stepped forward and twisted his revolver into the Soul Cutting Glaive to cut through it.

’I got it.’ Within the next moment, he slashed down the pillar as its stone broke apart. Afterward, he pushed the pillar with his bare strength as suddenly a green light erupted from deep within the ground where the vast pillar stood.

Murphy prepared himself for whatever was going to happen.
