Mei Mei felt wronged and wanted to retort, but she bit her lip to prevent herself from doing so.

The entertainment circle was a place that hierarchy was strictly kept to. The gap between an assistant and her artiste was insurmountable. An artiste’s politeness to his or her assistant was a blessing, and they were permitted to treat their assistant as they wished. If you were bullied, you could only suffer in silence.

No one cared about a mere assistant’s feelings.

Mei Mei had always been meticulous. She had chosen a secluded spot outside to make the call to request the Audi, and the cold wind was blowing such that her fingers felt frozen. She had made sure that no one would find out. She wanted to ask Xia Yu if she had been followed when she walked out of the makeup room. However, she didn’t dare ask, fearing that it would invite another round of berating.

Her guess was accurate. Xia Yu was followed on her way out.

Wei Wei had paid off a cleaner to pretend to be cleaning up, but in fact to be watching Xia Yu’s every move. He reported back to Wei Wei when Xia Yu left her makeup room and the car that she boarded. All Wei Wei needed to do was to leak that information, and immediately droves of fans and reporters were on Xia Yu’s tail.

It was a rarity to see a female artiste turn herself in to the police!

They just had to come to have a look for themselves!

At this moment, Mei Mei received a call from a reporter asking if Xia Yu was really going to turn herself in. Mei Mei glanced over at Xia Yu and told the reporter “No comment” before hanging up.

Xia Yu heard the question and her expression grew cold.

The car was going towards her house. What turn herself in? Even if she was going to the police, she wouldn’t have made it quite so high profile! She would first go home to change and switch to a less ostentatious car to avoid all the reporters!

All these people wanted to watch her turn herself in? No way!

“Go faster.” She instructed the driver.

“Miss Xia Yu, I’m already going as fast as I can.” The driver responded. The speed limit for the street they were on was eighty kilometers per hour, and there was a traffic jam. There was no way that he would be able to speed up any more to lose the cars following them. After all, Xia Yu was the anxious one… there was no real reason for him to risk getting demerit points for speeding.

Xia Yu was unhappy. “Big Brother Wang, I remember that you used to drive really fast when driving my sister around! Why do you have so many excuses when it comes to me? Don’t be biased!”

“Aiyo… Miss Xia Yu, how could I possibly dare?” The driver was not threatened at all as he complained. “The whole reason why Boss sent me to drive Miss Xia Ling around was that I was a steady driver and wouldn’t speed. Who would have guessed that Miss Xia Ling would steal the steering wheel off me?! She’s a reckless driver and broke all kinds of rules. I couldn’t stop her at all. Later, Boss demoted me to the back office to drive all the other artistes instead. I was so wronged…”

She had always been weak with bad health, and she enjoyed the feeling of being driven around by a driver as it made her feel important. She had only driven herself around several times, and wouldn’t dare to drive in this jammed street at high speed.

She sulked in the back seat.

Looking out of the window, she could see several motorbikes following closely, with the reporter rider aiming his camera at her car window. Even though the windows were glazed and they wouldn’t be able to see anything, Xia Yu still felt extremely uncomfortable.

Mei Mei’s phone kept ringing.

They were all calls from reporters, asking about the veracity of Xia Yu turning herself in.

Mei Mei couldn’t resist but ask Xia Yu, “Sister Xia Yu, should I just tell them that you are planning to go home so that they will stop following us?”

Xia Yu shot her a warning glance. “Don’t try to be clever.”

She had originally thought of going home first, but now she had two minds about it. She grabbed her phone to check the news, searching for “Xia Yu.” It was all news about reporters following her in real-time.

One of the reporters said, “Xia Yu’s Audi has turned onto Chengnan Street. I wonder which police station she is going to?”

“The Audi has made a turn! Wait… isn’t this the direction to her house? It’s the opposite direction of the police station!”

“Is Xia Yu really going to turn herself in?”

“Xia Yu isn’t going to go home and sleep, is she?”

The voices of suspicion grew.

The reporters were starting to get really unhappy. If she was really going to go home to sleep, then what were they following her all this time for?! This would affect her ability to plead for a lenient sentence!

She cursed silently at the netizens forcing her to turn herself in.

She shut her eyes before saying decisively, “Turn around. Go to the police station.”

“The police station?” The driver was stunned. “Miss Xia Yu, are you really going to turn yourself in?”

“Just drive.” Xia Yu was in a bad mood and didn’t want to say any more. She shut her eyes again, pretending not to see the driver’s and Mei Mei’s weird expressions. She didn’t have time to think about all the people that were going to watch as she turned herself in. This was still better than dragging it out and losing the chance to do so altogether! The matter of immediate urgency was to make sure that she could plead for a lenient sentence. Who cared about her face or pride? Only leniency would give her the opportunity to make a comeback in the future.

The Audi finally drove into the police station.

At the same time, at the broadcast station.

The crowd had almost dissipated completely with the attention on Xia Yu. There were just a few people left trying their luck.

Lin Yunan said gloatingly, “Okay, now we can go.”

Xia Ling walked out of the broadcast station in her black dress and tasseled scarf, surrounded by Wei Wei, several bodyguards, and Lin Yunan. A cool night breeze blew through her hair and clothes, picking up the pleasant scent of her perfume.
