Chapter 385: A Class in Session, The Strongest Spell

On the twenty-second floor of Black Isotta Sorcerer Academy lived six Arcane Sorcerers.

One of them was Sorceress Elaine of which he had met while he was just a sorcerer-apprentice. She was the beautiful sorceress that ate a centipede in their first Sorcerer Knowledge class. She even traded things with Grimm to get thirty Love Vials.

This scent…

Initially, Grimm thought he could never be affected by the fragrance that he invented when he was a Sorcerer Apprentice using the knowledge from Canine Olfactory Enhancement and Odor Mapping.

But now…

Grimm couldn’t help but close his eyes as he deeply inhaled the scent. It reminded him of how Lefay hugged him on the balcony right before the Gory Test.

This fragrance used the power of scents to invoke the nostalgic and bittersweet memories of sorcerers from a time long passed.

So… this was the true meaning of the Love Vials?

Now that Grimm had become an official sorcerer, he accumulated his own share of memories and realized certain things he couldn’t comprehend back when he was a sorcerer-apprentice.

Why were the Love Vials so popular with sorcerers?

Compared to those memories, what were a few Magic Stones?

“In the blink of an eye, the genius that invented the Love Vials is now a strong Demon Hunter… oh, how fate works her wonders, yes?”

As Elaine laid lazily on the sofa, it occurred to Grimm that this wasn’t the regular behavior of sorcerers.

Would long periods of peace and comfort turn sorcerers more mild and gentle?

Compared to Demon Hunters, including Bright Demon Hunters, these Arcane Sorcerers were even less suited to the Dark Sorcerer Laws.

“And I see that you have ascended to a Level-2 sorcerer yourself. Congratulations,” Grimm replied calmly.

Waving her hand disparagingly, she replied, “There’s nothing to congratulate me for, as this would probably be my peak. After Headmaster Peranos leaves, Sorcerer Nilmar will probably take his place. He ascended to a Level-3 Great Sorcerer a hundred years ago.”

“Ah, the Fake Faceless sorcerer?”

It was this sorcerer that possessed soundwave spells, curses, mysticism, and advanced studies of alchemy that had changed Grimm’s fate by causing him to go to Lilith’s Bright Sorcerer Academy.

Now, he had ascended to become a Level-3 Great Sorcerer.

“Yes, that’s him.”

The sorceress had hints of longing and envy hidden deep within her soulful gaze which Grimm declined to comment on, only nodding in reply.

“Young Master!”

“Third Senior!”

Vivian chased after Myna as he called for Grimm from the outside.

Hearing this, Grimm smiled softly and got up to leave. “I am going to complete the teaching sessions that I had scheduled. I will visit you again another day.”

“Alright.”

The sorceress stood up and watched Grimm leave.

Outside, Nina held a magic staff as she stood beside Vivian while Myna rested on it.

Nina’s elderly face formed a gentle smile, muttering, “They heard that a powerful demon hunter from the Holy Tower had come to teach them Elemental Sorcery, so the hall is completely filled with those children.”

Shaking his head, Grimm waved Myna over to his shoulder as he walked slowly down the steps of the tower.

“We were like that too, back then…” he said, sounding melancholic.

Hearing this, Nina seemed to recall memories from all those years ago. She broke into a smile. Vivian followed behind the two sorcerers with yearning in her eyes.

“That’s right, Alastair has been with Isabelle’s family in the center for a few years now. The Deathsail League has gotten some new sorcerers too. How about we go get acquainted with them?”

Was he not back yet from his wife’s family?

Alastair’s foresight and wisdom could be seen back when Grimm had to rely on him on the cruise ship.

Truth be told, if there wasn’t a strong organization like the Death Sail League, the children on the cruise ship might have ended up with a different fate upon arriving at the academy.

To recall, having the foresight to form an organization back when everyone was still at arms with each other surely wasn’t a normal feat.

Knowing that he was so intelligent, his ascent to an official sorcerer might not seem that far-fetched after all.

Grimm pondered on it for a minute before agreeing, “Alright, let’s contact them when we have the chance.”

Outside the lecture hall, Grimm waited silently.

“From here to the lecture hall, I would have to do 125 steps, which is approximately 1 minute and 45 seconds…”

Due to his strict discipline in collecting information just like other sorcerers, Grimm instinctively planned the time he would arrive.

Without missing a second, Grimm arrived at the lecture hall exactly at the time Master Peranos had scheduled for him.

The lecture hall was filled with a bunch of youngsters whose admiring gazes focused on Grimm the moment he walked in.

The apprentices looked in awe at the demon hunter with a ram-horned magic staff. His grey-spiraled masked, beautiful myna on his shoulder and a flowing sorcerer’s robe left their mouths gaping open.

Was this the strong demon hunter from the Holy Tower?

Vivian melted inconspicuously into the crowd, sitting down quietly and she too, fixed Grimm with a stare of fascination just like the other apprentices.

Thump, thump, thump…

Step by step, Grimm reached the center of the platform and slowly turned around to face them.

Under the Mask of Truth, Grimm’s dual-colored eyes seemed to observe the true nature of all the sorcerer-apprentices. He only had to sweep a cursory glance and a large number of them couldn’t help but flinch and gulp nervously.

Grimm’s presence itself had exerted too much pressure on these fledglings.

Seeing the situation, Myna silently rejoiced as he put on a serious face.

Coughing softly to clear his throat, he continued in an intimidating tone, “Upon the request of Headmaster Peranos, my young master Grimm has come back to this academy from the Seven-Rings Holy Tower and is only here to impart you children with knowledge. The lesson shall begin now, so you will do well to keep quiet and listen!”

Getting a withering glare from Grimm, Myna huffed softly and ruffled his feathers, sweeping his eyeballs over the apprentices. Considering his level of excitement, he seemed to have gotten a rush out of what he had just done.

Expressions obscured by the Mask of Truth, Grimm said, “All of you have been enrolled in this academy for quite some time. Can someone tell me what a sorcerer is?”

Scanning the students, he randomly chose one of them to answer his question—a male apprentice with long black hair and a golden mask.

The apprentice thought for a moment, and replied, “Sorcerers are great masters of the Sorcerer World, ruling over commoners, aristocrats, apprentices, and all of humanity.”

Grimm nodded and motioned for him to sit down before pointing at a rosy-cheeked female apprentice who looked well-endowed and seemed energetic.

“Sorcerers are the higher stage of a sorcerer-apprentice and signifies the growth and metamorphosis of a sorcerer-apprentice. I don’t know anything more specific…” she replied.

Nodding again, Grimm pointed toward another apprentice.

These sorcerer-apprentice all attempted to display their intelligence and wit in front of Grimm in order to be noticed by him, hoping to luck out as the one in a thousand chance to become his disciple.

After randomly picking a few more apprentices, Grimm pointed towards Vivian.

Unlike Grimm back in the day, the news that Vivian was taken in as a disciple of the Headmaster had spread all across the academy.

“A sorcerer…A sorcerer uses their knowledge as a lever and themselves as a fulcrum to achieve fantasies and ideals?”

Vivian looked frail as she replied Grimm, but in the depths of her gaze was an earnest yearning for recognition.

Grimm nodded and motioned for her to sit. “Not bad,” he said. “You’re close to the correct answer.”

Recalling his own teacher’s tone when she taught them back when he first started learning about sorcery, he spoke seriously.

“Sorcerers are beings that use their vast amounts of knowledge as a lever to pry the laws of the world. Remember this, because these are the words of the Great Celestial Sorcerer Antonio.”

He smiled and took out a crystal ball in front of the apprentices.

“Today, I will teach you about… the most powerful spell of the Sorcerer World!”

The most powerful spell?!

Even the apprentices who already had high hopes for this lesson got a great shock!

All of the sorcerer-apprentices stared dumbfounded at Grimm, shocked by his bold statement. Wasn’t he being too full of himself?

Even Vivian stared at her third senior startled by his statement.

Looking around, Grimm saw that there were about four hundred students in this lecture hall. He slowly walked to the first apprentice and commanded, “Destroy this crystal ball!”

“Huh? Yessir!” the blonde sorcerer-apprentice gulped nervously.

Grimm knew all about the unspoken rules between Dark Sorcerer-apprentices. Someone that could grab the first row was most likely the stronger one.

Whoosh!

A delicate wind element flower formed in the hands of the apprentice, and with a shout, it was sent hurtling towards the crystal ball.

“Wind Shock!”

As a pulse of elemental energy was channeled into the crystal ball. Grimm looked at the number written in correspondence to the strength of the attack.

The blonde apprentice had gotten 115 points.

As expected, the number was quite high for a sorcerer-apprentice, showing that he was skilled.

And so, Grimm started going around the lecture hall and walked over to the apprentices one by one, making them think that this was a test to see who was worthy of becoming his disciple.

In exactly a session’s time, all the students had a chance to try attacking the crystal ball.

One of the functions of the crystal ball was a tool to gauge the strength of spell cast on it, and if the degree to which it could bear was as much as the person who held it.

Therefore, no matter how hard these apprentices tried, they would not be able to cause the slightest bit of harm to the crystal ball held in Grimm’s large palm.

No…

They wouldn’t be able to cause even a ripple!

The spells that sorcerer-apprentices had access to were only pulses of elemental energy from the core of the Sorcerer World. These pulses were in a completely different league from how official sorcerers controlled natural power to leverage the World Laws.

So, in the opinion of the apprentices in the hall, this test was to only gauge their potential.

A sorcerer-apprentice that chose lightning sorcery and had the best scores looked up at Grimm with hope.

Was he going to become the disciple of a sorcerer from the Holy Tower?

Vivian panted softly as she recovered from expending her energy. Earlier, her skin had crystallized into glass as she attacked the crystal ball, earning her 130 points. It seemed to be a special ability of hers.

It wasn’t the highest amongst the apprentices but was still considered the cream of the crop.

At this point in time, there were a few decades left until the next Holy Tower Qualification Battles, so she still had a lot of time and space to grow.

Under the nervous glares of the students, Grimm made his way back to the platform with the help of his staff, turning to face the students once more.

The sorcerer-apprentices looked at him with bated breath as they waited for him to continue.

What spell could it be that this sorcerer from the Holy Tower claimed to be the most powerful spell in existence?

Suddenly, Grimm smiled under his mask and threw the crystal ball unceremoniously onto the floor. Without his magic to support it, the crystal ball fractured and shattered as it hit the floor with a ‘thunk’.

What?

In the confused looks of the apprentices, Grimm emotionlessly proclaimed, “This is the strongest spell you could ever learn—the intelligence to think outside the box.”

Upon finishing his sentence, Grimm left the lecture hall promptly.
