A Rogue For The Quadruplet Alpha's.
Chapter 468: Right hand...
Noah
The cold, damp mountain air bit sharp against my skin as the third-party guard shoved me out into the clearing.
My boots dragged heavily through the wet gravel, my knees buckling with every single step. The wolfsbane coursing through my blood felt like liquid lead, heavy, metallic, and suffocating. My wolf remained dead silent deep within my chest, completely locked away beneath the heavy haze of the poison.
"Keep moving," the guard grunted from behind me, the cold tip of an iron dagger pressing firmly against the center of my spine.
I squinted through the thick, swirling fog, trying to take in my surroundings. The high-pitched creaking of the carriage wheels faded behind us as two heavily armed mercenaries escorted me down a steep, winding stone trail carved directly into the face of a massive, black mountain. There were no pack banners here, no familiar scents, and no signs of civilization.
At the end of the narrow path stood a massive, imposing structure buried straight into the cliffside—a subterranean, underground fortress built from dark, jagged stone and reinforced with heavy iron bars. Thick fog rolled over the entrance like a shroud, obscuring the guards stationed atop the iron battlements.
This was no ordinary pack house. This was a off-the-grid, black-site stronghold designed for one specific purpose: containment.
"In," the guard commanded, shoving me past a heavy set of iron-reinforced doors.
The iron doors slammed shut behind us with a deafening, metallic boom that echoed down the long, narrow corridor. The air instantly turned freezing and stale, thick with the stench of damp moss, old blood, and the unmistakable, bitter sting of wolfsbane burning in wall-mounted braziers.
I looked down the hall, my heart sinking into a cold abyss. Anti-werewolf runes were carved deep into the stone arches, emitting a faint, oppressive pulse that further crushed any lingering trace of my Alpha strength. Every security measure in this place was specifically designed to strip a shapeshifter of their power, making mind-linking, shifting, or breaking out physically impossible.
The mercenaries dragged me down three flights of winding stone steps, deep into the belly of the facility, before stopping in front of a heavy, solid iron cell door.
The primary guard pulled a heavy key ring from his belt, unlocked the latch, and gave me a brutal shove into the dark.
I stumbled over the threshold, hitting the freezing stone floor hard. My shoulder slammed into the wall, a sharp gasp tearing from my throat as raw, searing pain shot straight up my neck and across my bruised ribs.
Clang!
The heavy iron door slammed shut, followed by the heavy, ominous click of three separate locks sliding into place.
I rolled onto my side, panting heavily as I pushed myself up against the cold wall of the small, windowless cell. The only light came from a single, narrow iron grate built high into the top of the door, throwing faint, flickering shadows across the damp stone floor.
"Wait!" I raspy-shouted, dragging myself to my feet and stumbling over to the door. I slammed my bruised hands against the iron grate, glaring out at the guard through the small gap. "Who owns this facility?! Who is paying you to keep me locked in the dark?!"
The broad-shouldered guard stopped in his tracks, turning slowly to face the cell door. He looked at my battered face with the same cold, mechanical indifference he had shown at the carriage.
"Give up the shouting, Alpha," the guard said flatly, his gravelly voice echoing off the stone walls. "No one can hear you down here. And even if they could, no one is coming to save you."
"I’m an Alpha of a premier territory!" I snarled, trying to force my voice to hold its usual authority, but the wolfsbane turned it into nothing more than a raspy, desperate yell. "You think you can hold me here forever?! Once my pack realizes I’m missing, they will tear this entire mountain to dust!"
A dry, bitter laugh escaped the guard’s cracked lips. He took a slow step toward the iron grate, his cold gray eyes locking onto mine.
"Your pack doesn’t even know where to look," the guard grunted, crossing his heavy arms over his armored chest. "They think you’re dead, or that you ran off into the night like a whipped dog. As far as the world is concerned, Alpha Noah has vanished into thin air."
"Who ordered this?!" I demanded, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the thick iron bars of the grate. "Was it Daniel?! Was it the quadruplets?!"
The guard shook his head, a slight, mocking smirk touching his scarred jaw.
"You keep asking about minor pack lords and petty estate rivalries," the guard said, leaning in just close enough for his voice to drop into a low, quiet murmur. "You really think small-time players have the resources to hire an elite mercenary unit and secure a subterranean fortress off the grid?"
My breath hitched in my throat, a sudden, icy knot forming in the pit of my stomach. "What are you saying...?"
"I’m saying you’re playing a game far bigger than you," the guard revealed, his eyes narrowing as he dropped the subtle truth. "My men don’t answer to petty pack Alphas. Our leader is the right-hand man to a very powerful entity—someone who operates way above your pay grade, someone who moves pieces across entire territories without ever showing his face."
The words hit me like a physical blow, sending a violent chill straight down my spine.
’The right-hand man to a powerful entity...’
This wasn’t just a sudden, bitter brawl between me and the quadruplets over Maria. This wasn’t just Daniel acting out of selfish jealousy inside his own estate. There was a shadow network moving behind the scenes—a high-level, hidden force manipulating the chaos, using third-party mercenaries to pull me off the chessboard while the quadruplets were entirely distracted by Maria’s failing bond.
"Who is he?" I pleaded, my raspy voice dropping into a desperate whisper. "Who is the entity your leader works for? What does he want with me? What does he want with Maria?!"
The guard didn’t answer. He simply stepped back out of the faint light, his face dissolving back into the dark shadows of the corridor.
"Get some rest, Alpha," the guard grunted coldly as he turned his back on my cell. "You’re going to need your strength for whatever my leader’s boss has planned for you."
His heavy footsteps echoed down the stone hallway, growing fainter and fainter until the heavy outer door creaked open and slammed shut once more, leaving me in absolute, suffocating darkness.
I slid down the cold iron door, collapsing back onto the damp floorboards of the cell. I pulled my knees tight against my chest, staring blindly into the blackness as my thumping head raced through every terrifying implication of what the guard had just said.
Whoever was holding me wasn’t just trying to hide me away—they were using me as a pawn in a far larger, far more dangerous scheme. And while I was locked deep underground, stripped of my wolf and completely helpless, Maria was wide open to whatever storm was about to hit the pack.
I clenched my trembling fists until my fingernails dug deep into my palms, drawing faint specks of blood.
’I will get out of here,’ I swore silently into the cold, silent dark, my blood burning with a fierce, dangerous resolve. ’I don’t care about their fortress. I don’t care about their entity. I’m coming back for you, Maria.’
