Chapter 803: Chapter 800: You Disappoint Me Too Much

Clara Grant snapped her eyes open. The glow from the bedside lamp was faint, but it was enough to make out the room.

Clara stared blankly at the ceiling. Nothing was there. She turned her head slightly to check her surroundings. Still nothing. Holding her breath, she listened intently, but there was no sound of a baby crying either.

Finally certain that it had just been a dream, Clara slowly wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and rested a hand on her flat stomach. Although it was completely flat and she couldn’t physically feel a thing, touching it brought her a profound sense of peace.

She wondered how she could have been so cruel before. How could she have wanted to abort it? How could she have even considered getting rid of her own baby?

This was her and Seth Quinn’s child, the crystallization of their love. She had every reason to love it, and absolutely no reason to reject it. So what if Seth didn’t like children? She could talk to him and gently persuade him over time until he did. So what if she wasn’t mentally prepared yet? She still had nine months to get ready. So what if she hadn’t graduated from college? Her mother-in-law was right; at worst, she could just take a year off and resume her studies after the baby was born.

The arrival of this child was fate. They were destined to be mother and child, so how could she ever dream of severing that bond?

Beside her, Seth shifted and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a warm embrace. Assuming he was awake, Clara whispered, "Seth." When he didn’t respond, she realized he was still fast asleep.

She reached out to gently shake him awake but hesitated as her hand brushed his shoulder. He already worked himself to the bone managing the company all day. She shouldn’t wake him up in the middle of the night. Tomorrow morning would be soon enough. She could just tell him then.

Comforted by this thought, Clara snuggled deeper into Seth’s arms. Lulled by the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, she closed her eyes and drifted back to sleep.

By the time Clara opened her eyes again, it was broad daylight. She glanced at the space beside her; Seth was already gone.

Stretching lazily, Clara’s gaze swept across the wall clock. Her eyes shot wide open, and she bolted upright in bed. It was already eight o’clock! Breakfast at the main house was strictly scheduled for seven, meaning she had completely missed it. Worse still, shooting on set started at nine o’clock at the latest. Not only had she missed breakfast, but she was also going to be late for work!

She grumbled internally, wondering why Seth hadn’t woken her up. After silently cursing him for a moment, she scrambled out of bed and rushed into the bathroom to wash up and change.

Once she was ready, she sprinted downstairs and spotted Mrs. Wyatt tidying up the living room. Before Clara could even get a word out, Mrs. Wyatt noticed her and beat her to the punch.

"Are you awake, Madam? Mr. Quinn left instructions that you wouldn’t need to go to the main house for breakfast today. You can eat right here in our wing. I’ve had breakfast ready for a while now. Would you like to eat now?"

Clara ignored the question about breakfast. "Mrs. Wyatt, where’s Mr. Quinn?"

"He has already left for the office. But don’t worry, Madam, he instructed the driver to take you to the film set. Why don’t you head into the dining room? I’ll have someone bring out the—"

"I don’t have time! I’m skipping breakfast!" Clara interrupted. "I have to go, Mrs. Wyatt!"

With that, she bolted straight out the front door.

Mrs. Wyatt stood there with her mouth half-open, swallowing back the rest of her sentence.
