Chapter 748: Chapter 745: If I Had Known, I Shouldn’t Have Helped You
Meanwhile, after Cedric Grant hung up, he was about to toss his phone onto the table when he suddenly froze. He looked up at Clara Grant and murmured, "Chloe won’t... do something foolish, will she?"
’She’s been so down lately. She couldn’t actually be depressed... and do something drastic, could she?’
Clara Grant heard him and couldn’t help but say, "Try giving her a call."
Cedric Grant took his phone and dialed Chloe Grant’s number, but the line was busy. He frowned and hung up.
A moment later, he tried again. This time it went through, but after two rings, the call was disconnected.
Cedric Grant grew even more worried. He looked at Clara anxiously. "Chloe isn’t answering! Clara, do you think she’s really going to do something rash? This won’t do. I have to go find her!"
With that, he stood up to leave.
Although Clara disliked Chloe Grant immensely, she was... as Cedric Grant said, her own sister.
So, she found herself asking, "Do you want me to come with you and look for her?"
Cedric Grant was stunned for a moment, as if he hadn’t expected her to say that. But he quickly recovered and nodded repeatedly. "Clara, thank you. Thank you."
Clara’s expression remained placid. She didn’t respond, simply standing up and following him out the door.
After they had been driving for a while, Clara turned to watch the pedestrians outside the car window. Frowning, she looked over at Cedric Grant and said, "Searching like this is pointless. If she’s really determined to do something foolish, we’ll probably just find her body by the time we get to her."
Her words made Cedric Grant even more anxious. "Then what do we do?"
Clara considered this for a moment. "If she has her phone with her, we can probably track its location. I’ll ask Seth Quinn to help and see if he can find her. Give me her number."
Cedric Grant quickly recited Chloe Grant’s number. Clara nodded and dialed Seth Quinn’s cell. "Seth, are you busy right now?"
Instead of answering, Seth Quinn asked, "What’s up, miss me already?" His voice held a hint of a roguish laugh.
It was Saturday, and he’d only gone into the office to handle a few minor things. He had just finished and was about to call her when her call came through first.
Even though she knew Cedric Grant couldn’t hear him, Clara still blushed. She glanced at Cedric subconsciously, too embarrassed to play along with Seth’s teasing, and instead got straight to the point about needing his help.
"No problem. Hold on, I have some software here. I can track any phone as long as I have the number." Seth agreed readily. After a brief silence on the line, his voice came through again. "Got it. The location is..."
Seth recited the address to her, then asked in a puzzled tone, "Who are you looking for? Why would they be in a place like that?"
’Even though it was in the city, it was a notoriously sketchy neighborhood. Clara shouldn’t have any friends who live in a place like that.’
Clara, in fact, had the same question. ’Even if Chloe wanted to die, why would she go to a place like that? Is she looking for some deserted building to jump from?’ ℯ
Unable to figure it out, she didn’t dwell on it. She turned and gave the address to Cedric Grant. He nodded, then hit the accelerator and sped toward the destination.
Then, she spoke into the phone again, answering Seth’s question. "I... I’m looking for Chloe Grant. She might... not be thinking clearly..."
"What do you care if she does something stupid or not? If she lives, she’s lucky. If she dies, she has it coming! Hasn’t she hurt you enough already?" Seth said, his voice laced with regret. "If I had known, I never would have helped you find her."
