Chapter 743: Chapter 740: Another Misunderstanding

After Linden Jennings left, Clara linked arms with Poppy and guided her over to some chairs. "Careful, careful," she kept saying as they sat down.

Poppy smiled and said, "Clara, you don’t have to be so careful. I’m not that delicate."

"That may be true, but it’s still better to be safe than sorry. You have a little baby in there, after all." Clara sat down beside her, gently stroking her prominent belly before looking up at her again.

"Poppy, it looks like you and Brother Jennings have made up completely. I’m so relieved. I was the one who told Brother Jennings where to find you. Even though I did it for your sake and the baby’s, I know I went against your wishes. I’m so sorry, Poppy. You’re not mad at me, are you?"

"Mad? Of course I’m mad at you! If I hadn’t run into you today, I wouldn’t even want to see you," Poppy said, raising an eyebrow at her with a completely serious expression.

Clara’s face filled with guilt. Just as she was about to apologize again, Poppy burst out laughing. She squeezed Clara’s hand and said, "Clara, I was just teasing you! You didn’t actually believe me, did you? To be honest, when he found me back then, I was a little upset with you. But now, I’m nothing but grateful.

"If you hadn’t told him where I was, he might never have found me, and we never would have cleared up our misunderstanding. So really, Clara, thank you so much."

Clara let out a sigh of relief and smiled. "There’s nothing to thank me for, as long as you’re not mad at me. By the way, since you’re pregnant, when are you two planning on getting married?"

Poppy’s mood seemed to deflate a bit. "My belly is too big... I don’t want to have a wedding before the baby is born. I mean, I won’t look good in a wedding dress. He respects my wishes. He suggested we register the marriage first and have the ceremony after the baby arrives, but I..."

"Registering the marriage first is a good idea, isn’t it? Are you not willing?" Clara asked, looking at her friend’s hesitation with some confusion. "You don’t want to marry Brother Jennings?"

"Of course I do! When I first got with him, I was hoping we’d get married."

"Then what are you hesitating about?"

"I love him very much, and I really want to marry him, but... there’s something I just can’t get over."

"What is it?"

Poppy looked at her and hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I know he’s sincere... but... during the time I was away from him, I found out he brought another woman home..."

"How is that possible?" Clara couldn’t believe it. ’During the time Poppy was away, Linden Jennings was either out looking for her all day or he was a complete mess, drinking himself into a stupor. How could he possibly have been with another woman, let alone bring one home?’

"Why not? I saw it with my own eyes." Poppy then recounted what she had seen that day.

The more Clara listened, the more she suspected something. ’Could what Poppy is describing be the day River Sterling and Rhys Ryston first met?’

After Poppy finished, Clara thought for a moment and asked, "Do you remember the exact date?"

"Of course. It was August twentieth. I remember it perfectly," Poppy answered, completely certain.

Clara remembered what River Sterling had told her about how his feud with Rhys Ryston started. He’d said, ’August twentieth. I’ll never forget that day as long as I live.’

’Of course. It was all a misunderstanding.’

Clara didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Did you ever ask Brother Jennings about it directly?"
