Chapter 741: Chapter 738: Caring for Her One Last Time
When it was time for Samuel to go to the airport, it was once again Clara Grant who had to drag a reluctant Seth Quinn along to drive.
"Clara, Seth, I’m so sorry to trouble you with bringing us all the way to the airport." At the entrance, Samuel thanked the two of them, looking a little sheepish. "Thank you!"
"Samuel, I told you, you don’t have to be so formal with us. Besides, the baby and I got along so well. He’s leaving, so how could I not come to see him off?"
As Clara spoke, she kissed the cheek of the baby in her arms, making the little guy giggle.
Seeing his son’s smile, Samuel smiled too. He dropped the pleasantries and turned his gaze to Seth Quinn.
He hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Seth, I know I probably shouldn’t be asking this, but I have to. If it’s at all possible, please don’t let her suffer in there for too long, okay?"
’Even though we’re through, I still can’t bear the thought of her suffering too much. This will be the last time I ever worry about her.’
Clara was looking down, playing with the baby in her arms. When a long moment passed without a reply from Seth, she couldn’t help but look up at him, giving him a subtle nudge with her elbow.
Seth glanced down and saw the look in her eyes. ’He sighed inwardly.’ He then said to Samuel, "I’ll do what I can."
"Thank you," Samuel said sincerely. He then looked at Clara and held out his arms for the baby. "Well, we should get going. Baby, say bye-bye to Auntie and Uncle."
The baby’s lower lip trembled. He clearly didn’t want to leave Clara, but after a glance at his father’s face, he raised a tiny hand and said reluctantly, "Auntie... Uncoo... bye-bye..."
The baby was a quick learner. In just over half a month, he had learned many new words, and his pronunciation was becoming clearer and more accurate.
"Sweetie, remember to call Auntie whenever you miss me, okay? I’m going to miss you so much, too." Clara fought back the sorrow of their parting, but tears welled up in her eyes anyway.
Afraid that delaying any longer would only make Clara more upset, Samuel quickly said, "We’re heading in. You two should get going."
With that, he turned and walked toward the gate.
But the moment he started to walk, the baby in his arms burst into tears, crying out for his "Auntie."
Samuel faltered for just a second before continuing on without stopping.
Clara’s tears immediately started to fall. Seth sighed helplessly and pulled her into his arms, stroking her hair. He comforted her, a hint of jealousy in his voice, "There, there. It’s okay, don’t cry. He’s gone, but you still have me, don’t you?"
Tears streamed down Clara’s face as she sobbed, "But... you’re not a baby..."
"I’m your big baby. And a big baby is still a baby."
Hearing this, Clara shot him a look, but she couldn’t help but laugh. "Don’t you hate kids? What’s this about you being a baby? Or have you changed your mind and decided you like kids now?"
"Kids are nothing but trouble. I don’t like them." ’More importantly, any kid would be competition for her affection, and he definitely didn’t like that.’ Seth gently pressed her head against his chest. "Let’s go."
Clara looked down, her brow furrowing slightly. She carefully placed a hand on her stomach.
’These past few days have been so busy—taking care of the baby, visiting Sierra at the hospital every day, not to mention my classes. I completely forgot to get a check-up. I have to go in the next couple of days.’
「...」
The next day was Saturday. After breakfast, Clara made an excuse and headed to the hospital by herself.
"You’re definitely pregnant. About two months along," the doctor said, glancing at her ultrasound report.
