Chapter 719: Chapter 716: Don’t Judge Others by Your Own Standards

"But your explanation sounds more like you’re trying to hide something. The baby called Clara Grant ’Mommy,’ but when we all needed an explanation, you claimed the baby’s mother was dead. Isn’t that highly suspicious?"

Ultimately, Autumn Shelby refused to back down. Of course she did. An opportunity as perfect as this might never come again. ’How will I ever compete with Clara Grant if I let this go?’

’How else could I drive Clara Grant out of the Quinn Family and take her place?’

Ever since she was a child, her entire life had been intertwined with Seth Quinn’s. Her parents had drilled one idea into her head: for the sake of the Shelby Family, she absolutely had to marry Seth Quinn. There was no other choice.

So, from a young age, the thought of marrying Seth Quinn had taken root deep within her heart. Over more than twenty years, that tiny seed had sprouted and grown, its roots burrowing deeper and deeper until it became a towering, unshakeable tree, impossible to uproot.

’So if I can’t marry Seth Quinn in this lifetime, how can I ever accept it? How could I possibly live with that?’

And so, driven by this fierce unwillingness to concede, Autumn Shelby took a gamble.

’Sierra Sutton just chose to say the baby’s mother was dead rather than expose me. That proves he still loves me. He would never have the heart to hurt me!’

’And I have to use this incident today to take down Clara Grant. Otherwise, I’ll never get another chance!’

Sierra Sutton had thought that by covering for Autumn Shelby, she would be shaken by the near-exposure. He assumed that even if she didn’t appreciate his sacrifice, she’d be frightened enough to stop using this incident against Clara Grant.

He even hoped she might finally let go of her fixation, move on from her past with Seth Quinn, and start a new life.

’But now, it seems that was all just wishful thinking on my part. I was just dreaming!’

As he was lost in these thoughts, Autumn Shelby spoke again, her tone aggressive. "If you say Clara Grant isn’t the child’s mother, you’ll need to produce some solid evidence to convince everyone, won’t you?"

Everyone present could tell that Autumn Shelby was deliberately targeting Clara Grant. After all, her history with Seth Quinn was no secret.

Sierra Sutton’s expression flickered, and he was about to speak, but Seth Quinn beat him to it. "Evidence?" Seth said. "Clara is my wife. I was her first man, so how could she have possibly had a child? I am the best evidence there is. What more proof do you need?"

Clara Grant couldn’t help but look up at Seth Quinn, a warmth spreading through her heart. ’As long as he believes me, that’s all that matters!’

The hands hanging at Autumn Shelby’s sides subconsciously curled into fists. "Hah," she scoffed. "How would a man like you know whether a woman has given birth?

Do you think what you feel is automatically the truth? You feel like a woman is a virgin, and that just makes it so? You should know, that can be faked!"

"Autumn Shelby!" Clara Grant snapped, her voice frigid. "You should be careful what you say. That was the warning you gave me, and now I’m giving it right back to you! Not everyone in this world is obsessed with faking things. So don’t you dare judge others by your own low standards!"

"What do you mean, ’judge others by your own low standards’? Clara Grant, you... what are you implying?!" That phrase from Clara sent Autumn Shelby’s mind into a panic.

’What did Clara mean? Does she know? Does she know I’m the baby’s real mother?’

’No, that’s impossible. If she knew, she would have exposed me long ago. Why would she have kept quiet until now?’
