Sierra Sutton looked at Clara Grant and was just about to speak when his phone chimed with a text message notification.

He paused, said, "Excuse me," and pulled out his phone.

His expression changed suddenly as he opened the text message.

After a moment, he lifted his gaze from his phone and looked toward Autumn Shelby.

The text was from Autumn Shelby. ’She’s actually telling me to frame Clara Grant and claim the baby is mine and Clara’s!’

He knew what she was fixated on. She couldn’t stand losing Seth Quinn, the man she had loved for over twenty years, to another woman. She couldn’t accept that Seth Quinn hadn’t fallen in love with her in all that time, yet had fallen for a woman he’d only known for a few months.

She felt she had to drive the woman Seth Quinn loved away from his side. Only then would her resentment finally fade. Only then could she truly let go of Seth Quinn, let go of that twenty-year-plus relationship, and finally start a new life with him.

If the woman she wanted to go after was anyone else, perhaps he would have gritted his teeth and helped her, conscience be damned.

But the woman was Clara Grant!

’I can’t bring myself to harm her!’

He had seen Clara Grant’s kindness and sincerity with his own eyes. She was so good to the baby, giving him a happy first birthday and letting him feel a mother’s love for the first time. She had even been there for the wonderful surprise of him learning to walk.

The baby adored her, called her "Mama," and would light up with a happy smile whenever he saw her.

Even if he could bring himself to hurt Clara Grant, he couldn’t bring himself to hurt the baby.

Sierra Sutton slipped his phone back into his pocket. His gaze swept past Autumn Shelby before landing on Theodore Quinn and Sienna Hale. Then, he spoke calmly.

"Uncle Quinn, Aunt Quinn, what Miss Grant said is true. We haven’t known each other long. She celebrated the baby’s birthday with us simply because she likes children and felt bad that the baby didn’t have his mother with him on such an important day.

We know very little about each other. I only learned today that she’s Seth Quinn’s wife. Likewise, I’m sure she only just learned today that I’m the adopted son of the Shelby Family.

So, she is not the baby’s mother. The baby only calls her ’Mama’ because he likes her. You know how children are—they speak their minds. A child’s most beloved person is their mother, so it’s very easy for them to transfer that affection to any woman who is kind and loving toward them. It’s perfectly normal."

The moment Sierra Sutton spoke his first sentence, the smile on Autumn Shelby’s lips froze. When she heard him state bluntly that Clara Grant was not the baby’s mother, her knees nearly buckled.

’Sierra Sutton... he actually... he actually defied me! He’s helping Clara Grant prove her innocence!’

’Doesn’t he love me deeply? Doesn’t he care about me more than anyone? It was all a lie!’

’Liar! Liar! All men are liars! Not a single one of them can be trusted!’

Autumn Shelby fought to control herself, barely stopping from rushing over in a rage to confront him. Instead, she shot daggers at him with her eyes. Sierra Sutton, however, met her gaze calmly. He knew he had disappointed her, but there was nothing he could do but apologize.

’He swore to himself that if she would just come back to the U.S.A. with him and the baby, he would spend the rest of his life proving how much he truly loved her.’

Hearing Sierra Sutton’s answer, Yvette Zimmerman and Evan Shelby were also filled with disappointment.

This was especially true for Evan Shelby. Autumn Shelby had assured him that she had Sierra Sutton wrapped around her finger, that he would do whatever she said.

And the result? It only proved that the higher the hopes, the greater the disappointment.

But as furious as he was, with a room full of people, all he could do was shoot a hateful glare at Yvette Zimmerman beside him.

Aside from the three members of the Shelby Family, everyone else breathed a collective sigh of relief at Sierra Sutton’s "testimony."
