A Night of Desire
Chapter 656 - 653: Meeting Again
Chapter 656: Chapter 653: Meeting Again
When Clara Grant returned to Stellan Bay, she saw that although her mother, Skylar Hayes, was in low spirits, she was otherwise fine. Upon seeing Clara return, Skylar even busied herself with making a few of her favorite dishes, which finally put Clara’s mind at ease.
That night, the mother and daughter squeezed onto one bed and talked for a long time. Clara had actually wanted to persuade her mother not to get hung up on the fact that Marcus Jarvis was Jean Jarvis’s cousin. But when she saw that her mother refused to even mention Marcus Jarvis, she didn’t press the issue.
’Since Mom still can’t quite get over it, it’s best to let things cool down. It would be pointless to say any more right now.’
The next day, Clara had no classes in the morning, so she’d originally planned to take Skylar Hayes out to browse the shops and unwind.
But Skylar refused to go out, no matter what Clara said. Clara offered to stay home and keep her company, but Skylar wouldn’t hear of it, insisting that Clara go and take care of her own business.
Clara figured her mother probably wanted some time alone, so she didn’t insist. She said her goodbyes and left.
She had intended to go find Seth Quinn, but then she suddenly remembered Theodore Quinn’s sixtieth birthday. She decided to take the opportunity to go shopping for his gift.
She spent half the day wandering through the biggest, most prosperous, and liveliest shopping district, but she still couldn’t find a suitable gift.
Feeling a bit listless, she tossed her empty milk tea cup into a trash can and sat down on a nearby bench.
She pulled out her phone, intending to call Seth Quinn for his opinion. Just as she opened her call log and found his number, before she could even hit dial, she felt a tug on her pant leg.
She looked down to see a small toddler by her feet, clutching her pant leg and struggling to pull himself up.
The little guy’s hat was askew, obscuring his face.
Forgetting all about the phone call, Clara stuffed her phone back into her bag, bent down, and helped the little guy to his feet.
When she saw the little baby’s face, Clara froze for a second before breaking into a happy smile. "Baby? What are you doing here?
She had often thought about him since their rideshare, wondering if she might run into him again someday. She never expected it to actually happen.
A happy smile spread across the baby’s chubby face. He reached his little arms out to her, wanting to be held, while calling out, "Yiyi, Yiyi..."
Clara picked him up, gave his little cheek a gentle squeeze, and said with a laugh, "Baby, you remember me! You have such a good memory."
The little guy seemed to understand her praise and beamed even more brightly. With his mouth slightly open, he leaned in and nuzzled against her cheek.
Clara knew he was giving her a kiss, and her heart instantly melted. Even though her cheek was now covered in drool, she was more than happy to kiss his little face in return.
After kissing him, she remembered the situation. Frowning slightly, she glanced around before asking the little guy in her arms, "Baby, why are you here all by yourself? Where are your mommy and daddy?"
The baby lifted his head, glanced in a certain direction, and mumbled, "Dada, Dada..."
Clara followed his gaze. Not too far away, a man stood with his back to them, apparently talking on the phone.
They had only met once, so just from his back, she couldn’t be sure if it was the man she had shared a ride with.
She pointed at the man and asked the little guy, "Baby, is that your daddy?"
The baby didn’t answer, simply popping his fingers into his mouth and sucking on them.
Clara gently pulled his little hand out of his mouth. "Baby, are you hungry?" she chuckled. "You can’t eat your fingers, though. You were just crawling all over the ground, so your hands are dirty and full of germs."
Saying this, she started walking toward the man, still holding the baby in her arms.
