A Night of Desire
Chapter 643 - 640: Do You Like My Mother?
Chapter 643: Chapter 640: Do You Like My Mother?
Clara Grant pulled out her phone, dialing Seth Quinn’s number as she looked at Marcus Jarvis and asked, "Uncle Jarvis, where should we go eat?"
"Your mom likes Western food, so we originally made a reservation at a Western restaurant. But if you and Seth Quinn would prefer something else, we can change the location."
"Oh no, that’s fine! I love Western food too. Let’s just go to the Western restaurant," Clara Grant said, quickly waving her hand.
"Alright, the address is..." Marcus Jarvis recited the address to her. Just then, her call connected to Seth Quinn. She told him they were going out for dinner and repeated the address to him.
After hanging up, Clara Grant sat down and started chatting with Marcus Jarvis.
"Uncle Jarvis," Clara Grant began with a smile, her tone half-joking and half-serious, "you said earlier that you were just passing by when you came to see my mom and decided to ask her to dinner. You know, you don’t have to be ’just passing by’ to come see her and take her out."
"Really? Because I’m going to take you at your word," Marcus Jarvis replied, also smiling.
"Of course I’m serious. Please do." Clara Grant finished with a smile, but then her expression grew serious. She looked at him and asked, "Uncle Jarvis, have you been seeing my mom often lately?"
’Otherwise, how would he know my mother likes Western food?’
Marcus Jarvis nodded. "Yes, we... see each other often."
Marcus Jarvis sounded a bit hesitant. He couldn’t deny that he was very fond of Skylar Hayes, but for now, Skylar only saw him as a friend.
He knew she had been hurt in the past, which was why she was afraid to jump into a new relationship. What he didn’t know was whether Skylar also feared that her own daughter might not support it.
That’s why he wasn’t sure if Clara would disapprove of him seeing her mother.
"So, what do you think of my mom?" Completely unaware of his thoughts and concerns, Clara Grant pressed on with her questions.
"I think your mother is wonderful. She’s gentle and virtuous, cultured and reasonable, and incredibly kind-hearted. She’s a great woman, a truly great woman."
"Then let me ask you another way. Do you... like my mother?"
’Even though her mother had been hurt and wasn’t keen on finding another partner, if Uncle Jarvis was interested, then they had a fifty-fifty shot.’
Marcus Jarvis looked at Clara Grant. Her expression was completely serious; she wasn’t joking.
After a moment’s silence, he answered honestly, "To be honest, I like your mother a great deal. Clara, if I said that I wanted to be with your mother... would you be against it?"
"Uncle Jarvis, I’ll be honest with you, too. I’ve always hoped that my mom could move past the shadow of her divorce and find her own happiness again.
Besides, my mom’s health has never been the best, and now that I’m married, I can’t always be there for her. I really hope she can have someone by her side.
So if my mom were to get married again, I certainly wouldn’t be against it."
As she spoke, Clara Grant smiled at Marcus Jarvis and added, "Uncle Jarvis, from the very beginning, I thought you were a great guy and a good match for my mom. I’ve actually been thinking about how to set you two up. So now that I know you’re interested in her, of course I’ll support you."
Marcus Jarvis smiled. "Well, Clara, thank you so much for your support."
After saying that, he spread his hands in a gesture of slight resignation. "It’s just... winning over your mother is going to be an uphill battle. She’s only ever seen me as a friend."
"Uncle Jarvis, my mother is divorced, and in the past, she also..." Clara Grant paused before continuing, "In short, my mother suffered a double blow, so getting her to open up to another relationship might not be so easy."
