Chapter 153 - Broken Spear And Loot
Eldrian knew he would not be able to think of an answer. So after satisfying his curiosity by having found the reason, he tried meditating. Finding that he could actually now move his mana not just to his head, but also his limbs. Increasing the number of paths from the one he had been practicing with, to five.
Eldrian first spent around half an hour just getting used to the new way it flowed. The feeling of creating so many paths and then sending mana through them, something new and hard to maintain.
Only after getting used to it, and being able to focus some of his attention on other things, did he start practicing with the sword again.
The start was hard, almost like he had never tried this before. He would let slip his concentration and either mess up his attack, or cause his mana to retreat and the pathway he had made to be lost.
Even so, he did not wish to lessen the paths. He wanted to practice at his max, and as such, he only managed to hold out for an hour. After which he fell onto the ground, completely exhausted.
Not smart, why did I do that? He asked himself as he waited for his body to recover. After recovering from the excitement of managing to improve so quickly, he felt it had been dumb. Dumb to push himself so hard when he had other things he needed to do.
While it was a good thing when only looking at the results, when he saw the Fatigue and Magical Fatigue he had gained. He felt it was really dumb. It was not the right time to be focusing on training.
Once he recovered, he decided to call it a day. Heading back to the temporary camp, he found that the others were still asleep. With nothing else to do, he browsed the forum until everyone started waking. Which was only 15 minutes or so later.
Once everyone was ready and geared in their armor. Eldrian decided to ask, "What had happened to the pieces of my spear?"
"We actually took them with us, they are at the platform. Along with the daggers and greatsword of the Oni." Sabrea replied quickly. So they all headed over there to go pick them up.
Naturally, everyone did not climb the platform, there was no need. They only came to get the weapons. Eldrian, as the one whose spear was up there, quickly climbed up and brought everything down.
A Grace, why did you have to break? Eldrian sighed as he looked at the two uneven pieces. The one was almost 1.5 meters, while the other was just half a meter long.
After a bit of time, Eldrian felt like he might be able to use the longer piece. But for now, he simply stored the pieces in his inventory, along with the daggers and sword.
Back on the ground, he asked what to do with the sword and daggers. Feeling like it was part of the group's.
"They're yours, of course," Sabrea said, Floyd and Margit nodding in agreement.
Thinking about it for a bit, Eldrian realized that this was in fact true. He had the right to claim them since only he and Cephaphyr had fought. Even so, he felt it was wrong to keep them. If one of them had been a spear, then he might have been greedy. But he did not really like the idea of using daggers against goblins. While he also had no idea if the greatsword would even be used inside the caves.
Seeing his reluctance, Sabrea added, "The sword isn't as good as mine, and the daggers... Well, they are around what Terlas used to have."
"Oh, that's right. You lost yours." Eldrian remembered, "Why don't you take the daggers for now, just for while we are clearing the caves." Eldrian offered, feeling that it would be dumb to not offer them to Terlas.
Entering the caves with only a bow would be really dumb for anyone. Everyone had to have some type of melee weapon. He also made sure that Terlas understood that he would want them back after the mission.
Taking them, Terlas was quite shocked. Thanking Eldrian for his generosity greatly, he certainly would never lend something so precious to someone.
After finishing that Eldrian took the sword and cast Inspect on it, finding that some of the information was hidden. But he could see the basic information. Informing him of the damage and what attributes he required to equip it.
[Magical Greatsword, Gray]
[Tier 2]
Seeing this left Eldrian stunned for a while. Greatly surprised at the grade, he only wished it was a shorter sword or maybe a spear. After a few seconds of disappointment, he scolded himself and told himself not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
[Damage: 33]
[Durability: 7056/13k]
[Attribute requirements:]
[Strength: 116; Agility: 105; Intelligence: 110]
[???]
Eldrian sighed in relief as he still had 20 free. He was not far from meeting the requirements, only needing to improve his strength slightly. As such he quickly added 6 points to it, wondering what the question marks were for.
He was also happy with the damage, it was less than he had expected for a Tier 2 greatsword. But only because he had no basis to judge the damage on.
[Haru's Statistics:]
[Level: 12 (147 700/192 000)]
[Magic Class Tier 1]
[Sub-class: Melee]
[Avatar Affinity: 97.12%]
[Attributes:]
[Constitution: 110]
[Strength: 116]
[Agility: 150]
[Spirit: 110]
[Intelligence: 115]
{14 free attribute points}
Holding the spear with the correct attributes, Eldrian equipped the sword. Unlike simply holding it, equipping it required mental thought and would lead to the system actually showing it as equipment.
Eldrian and other players have found that you could use weapons without doing this, but you would receive a debuff. Lessening your damage and speed slightly. This seemed to increase as the weapon became stronger. Though no one had been able to try this with magical weapons yet, and Eldrian felt no need to do that now. Testing it took too much time without other players.
As Eldrian wished to equip the sword, he got a prompt from the system.
[Does user wish to soul bind the sword. Doing so will prevent another from using the sword, unless you die, permanently. To unbind, your soul must be destroyed.]
[Not binding will cause the user of the sword to be unable to access the sword's skills, abilities, and passive bonuses.]
Reading through the system messages Eldrian decided to just go for it. While it was already an upgrade in damage, so far he felt it was more of a downgrade. He was not used to it and had no idea how it would work in caves. As such he wanted some more good news.
Yes. He said to the system, after which he could feel himself improving, slightly.
Greatly excited he looked at the full information.
[Magical Greatsword, Gray]
[Tier 2]
[Damage: 33 <38>]
[Attack speed: 1.1 <1.65>]
[Durability: 7056/13k]
[Attribute requirements:]
[Strength: 116; Agility: 105; Intelligence: 110]
[Passive bonus:]
[I am right, you are wrong; When someone wants to argue, bring me out.]
[10% Bonus damage when fighting someone with conflicting beliefs.]
[Ability:]
[Hunger; Heal for 10% of the damage dealt right after activation.]
[Cooldown: 30 seconds]
Huh... Eldrian did not know what to think. He felt like the passive was kind of insane for Chosen. Every single race had a different belief than theirs, heck even players had different races. Thus the 10% bonus damage would almost always work.
The ability would also be good, but he had no idea how this heal worked. Was it just HP, did it heal wounds? What was meant by right after activation, how long was right?
Ultimately Eldrian did not care much, these bonuses seemed really good to him. Even the heal, while 10% might be low, he felt if he used it smartly then it would heal him quite a bit.
Confident that if he used this while landing a vital hit that it would heal him for at least 10 HP. Not much, but it was basically a free Anthizo cast. It's cooldown also wasn't very long, meaning he could use it to constantly try and keep his HP high. Something really useful when fighting weaker enemies where he could deal a crazy amount of damage.
Before his attention returned to the others, Eldrian was drawn by another sentence below the weapon.
[10% to both the passive and ability, due to race.]
So, does that mean I get 11% extra damage and heal? Eldrian wondered, curious about why there was no place showing the final data. He certainly had to ask this when meeting the rep, it felt like a lack of thought in the design.
He also was not sure why this 10% bonus came from. It said race value, but Eldrian could not remember all the things back when he chose his race. The number long having been forgotten. Thus he wondered how this worked, was it constant, or would it increase?
He felt that 10% was slightly low if it was constant, especially when the stats of the weapon was also low. Like now, with it only giving him 1% as a bonus.
