A New Life in Fairy Tail
Chapter 552 - 552: Let's Take a Massive Group Photo!
The airship gracefully descended just a short distance from the heavily fortified border checkpoint. Noah, Laxus, and Ultear disembarked, walking up to the customs station to handle the final diplomatic clearances.
Because Laxus had meticulously filed the majority of the paperwork with the Magic Council days in advance, the actual border crossing was a breeze. After a few quick signatures and magical verifications, the trio returned to the Fairy. Noah engaged the thrusters, and the colossal warship lifted into the sky once more.
As they crossed the invisible boundary line, they officially left the Fiore Kingdom behind.
"Wow! Are we actually in a foreign country now?!" Meredy gasped, leaning over the observation deck's railing, her eyes wide as she took in the sprawling landscape below.
"It feels completely different!" Wendy agreed, pressing her hands against the glass.
The contrast was staggering. It was as if a literal line had been drawn across the world. While the lands within Fiore's borders were lush, vibrant, and blanketed in thick green forests, the foreign territory they were now flying over was a harsh, desolate expanse of barren mountains and rugged canyons.
"Naturally," Noah smiled, walking over to join them. "Every nation possesses its own unique climate, culture, and customs. The environment you grew up with in Fiore is just one tiny piece of the world. As we travel, you're going to encounter landscapes and situations you never even imagined."
"Exactly," Ultear nodded, stepping up beside him. "The more of the world you see, the broader your horizons become. When you inevitably face strange or difficult situations in the future, you'll be able to handle them calmly."
"Seeing different cultures opens your mind. It's incredibly beneficial for your personal growth," Mirajane added with a warm smile.
"Over the years, we've traveled extensively across the neighboring countries for S-Class subjugations. Those experiences shaped us into the mages we are today," Erza noted, crossing her arms proudly.
Hearing the veterans speak, Meredy, Wendy, and the younger members felt their anticipation for the journey skyrocket.
The observation deck was soon bustling with activity. Members who had never left the country were frantically snapping pictures of the barren mountains. Those who had brought their families were flagging down their guildmates to take commemorative portraits. The entire front deck radiated a warm, chaotic, and incredibly festive atmosphere.
"Noah! Let's take a picture together!" Sorano cheered, practically skipping over to him. Seeing everyone else documenting the moment had instantly sparked her enthusiasm.
"Of course," Noah laughed. Ultear, Mirajane, and Erza happily gathered around as well.
They took a few group shots with the older girls, then pulled Meredy, Yukino, and Wendy in for a few more. Soon, the entire deck devolved into a massive, overlapping photo session as members grabbed their closest friends to pose.
Looking at the chaotic, joyful crowd, Noah was struck by a sudden burst of inspiration.
"Hey, since everyone is already out here taking pictures... why don't we take a massive group photo of the entire guild?!" Noah shouted, projecting his voice over the chatter.
"Oh! That's a brilliant idea!" Sorano's eyes lit up instantly.
"It really is! I'll go round up everyone who's still inside!" Erza declared, immediately spinning on her heel and marching toward the interior corridors.
"I'll help you!" Mirajane called out, quickly following the armored mage.
Noah opened his mouth, intending to say he could just use the ship's PA system to summon everyone, but Erza and Mirajane were already sprinting down the hall. He chuckled and swallowed his words.
"Well, while they round everyone up, let's get the staging area ready," Noah told Ultear and Sorano. "Go grab Laxus and Cana to help."
With the S-Class mages coordinating, they quickly cleared a wide space on the forward deck. Using his Wood-Make magic, Noah rapidly constructed a wide, multi-tiered set of wooden bleachers, ensuring everyone would be perfectly visible in the frame.
Erza and Mirajane were incredibly efficient. Within minutes, every single person aboard the ship had been herded out onto the deck.
After a bit of chaotic shuffling and shouting, everyone found a spot on the wooden tiers. Noah secured a high-end magical camera on a floating tripod, meticulously adjusted the focus and framing, and then sprinted back to his spot in the center of the front row.
"Three! Two! One!"
On the final count, everyone flashed their brightest smiles. Noah subtly pulsed his magic, remotely triggering the camera to snap several high-resolution photos in rapid succession.
"Don't move just yet! Family members, please step aside for a moment. We're going to take one more with just the official guild roster," Noah instructed.
The civilian families happily obliged, stepping off the bleachers to watch.
"Three! Two! One!"
The camera flashed several more times. Once the final shot was captured, Noah walked over to the tripod to review the film.
"I want to see how it turned out!" Sorano rushed over, peering over his shoulder.
"Hold on, give me a minute to process them," Noah laughed, gently nudging her back.
With a snap of his fingers, the wooden bleachers dissolved into golden light. Noah then activated his Spatial Magic, teleporting directly into his advanced subterranean laboratory on the lower decks.
Using his specialized alchemical printers, he selected the best shot from both the all-inclusive group and the guild-only group. He rapidly duplicated hundreds of high-quality copies, ensuring every single person on the ship would get both photos. A few minutes later, he teleported back to the deck, holding two massive stacks of glossy prints.
"Come get them! One for everybody!" Noah called out.
"Me first!" Sorano cheered, eagerly snatching the photos from his hands. She scrutinized her own face in the group shot. "Oh, perfect! I look absolutely gorgeous."
She then turned to her younger sister standing beside her. "And, of course, the Yukino in the photo is incredibly cute too!"
"Hehe..." Yukino blushed deeply, ducking her head. Even though she was used to her sister's aggressive doting by now, hearing it in front of the whole guild still made her incredibly shy.
"But the real-life Yukino is still the cutest!" Sorano squealed, pulling her sister into a suffocating hug and rubbing their cheeks together.
The rest of the guild swarmed Noah, happily passing the photos around and pointing out hilarious background details and goofy expressions.
"Everyone looks so incredibly vibrant... so full of life," Mavis murmured, staring down at the glossy print in her small hands.
This was the modern Fairy Tail. It was louder, larger, and undeniably more chaotic than the guild she had founded a century ago, but the core spirit—that unbreakable bond of family—had been passed down perfectly.
"I'm going to have this blown up and framed on the main wall back in Magnolia. It's a perfect commemorative piece," Makarov declared proudly, holding up the guild-only photo.
"That's a great idea," Noah agreed. "Actually, we should put together a massive photo album to document this entire journey. We can print copies of every good photo we take and give everyone a completed album at the end of the trip."
"Oh, I love that!" Laxus nodded from the side. "We can dig up all the old photos we've taken over the years and compile a historical album, too."
"Brilliant! The guild treasury will fully fund the albums. It's the perfect souvenir for everyone," Makarov agreed instantly, his eyes shining.
Thanks to the guild's skyrocketing strength under Noah's guidance, their overall quest completion rate and average difficulty had surged. Even with the massive payouts required for property damage, the guild's standard commission fees had generated a massive surplus in the treasury. Between that and Noah's personal financial backing, funding a few hundred custom photo albums was practically pocket change.
"Consider it done. I'll start putting the framework together tonight," Noah nodded.
"If we're making a whole album, we need to take way more pictures! We need to capture every single memory!" Sorano declared enthusiastically.
"Then I must rigorously train my photographic skills. I need to ensure that everyone's beauty is perfectly immortalized on film," Erza stated with terrifying solemnity. She pulled out her own camera, holding it up to her eye and meticulously panning across the deck, treating photography with the exact same intensity she treated swordsmanship.
Watching her struggle to frame a selfie, Noah had another realization.
"Since everyone is going to be taking pictures, standard cameras are going to be a hassle, especially if you want a group shot and no one is around to hold it," Noah mused aloud. "Give me a bit. I'm going to upgrade all of them."
"Upgrade them how?" Sorano asked, tilting her head.
"I'll enchant them with localized anti-gravity and tracking arrays. They'll be able to float autonomously and capture full 360-degree panoramic shots. You won't even need to hold them; you can just snap your fingers or pulse a tiny bit of magic, and the camera will automatically frame the shot and take the picture," Noah explained casually.
Sorano's eyes widened in absolute delight. "That's amazing! We won't have to carry them around constantly! We can just pose naturally and trigger it whenever we want!"
"Yeah, I'll go modify them as soon as I finish handing these out—"
Before Noah could finish his sentence, Sorano snatched the remaining stack of photos from his hands, shoved them into Ultear's arms, and firmly grabbed Noah by the shoulders. She spun him around to face the stairwell and aggressively began pushing him forward.
"Go! Go right now! The photos can wait, the upgrades are a priority!" Sorano ordered playfully.
"Alright, alright, stop pushing! I'm going," Noah laughed, yielding to her momentum.
"Hurry back! We want to test them the second they're done!"
"I know, I know," Noah waved over his shoulder as he disappeared down the stairs.
"Well, if the cameras are going to frame us automatically, we definitely need to practice our posing and shooting angles," Ultear noted with a sophisticated smile. She absolutely refused to let a bad angle ruin her photos.
"Agreed. We need to look our absolute best," Mirajane nodded seriously.
"Why don't we practice taking pictures of each other right now? We can test different lighting and angles to see what works best," Sorano suggested.
"That's a good idea, but we should probably ask Lucy for some professional advice. She has an incredible eye for aesthetics," Ultear pointed out, recalling how brilliantly the blonde heiress had designed the ship's interior.
"Did someone say my name?" Lucy asked, walking over to grab her copy of the group photo from Levy, who was currently clutching Lucy's arm.
"We want you to teach us how to take good photos," Sorano said directly.
"Yeah! I heard Noah is upgrading the cameras, and I want to learn from Lucy too!" Levy chimed in eagerly.
The other guild members lingering nearby nodded in agreement, forming a small crowd around the blonde mage. If Ultear and Mirajane respected Lucy's artistic eye, they wanted to learn from her too.
"Teach you...?" Lucy suddenly looked incredibly conflicted.
Thanks to Noah completely curing Layla's magical deficiency disease years ago, her mother had fully regained her health and vibrant energy. Layla was a brilliant, worldly woman who had spent Lucy's childhood teaching her everything from high society etiquette to the arts. Layla had taken up photography specifically to document Lucy's childhood, and she had passed those skills down to her daughter.
Because of her mother, Lucy absolutely knew how to compose a beautiful photograph.
"I mean... I know how to take them, but I have absolutely no idea how to teach photography," Lucy admitted awkwardly, scratching her cheek.
"That's fine!" Mirajane smiled brightly, ever the pragmatist. "We'll just take a bunch of photos, show them to you, and you can tell us everything we did wrong!"
What kind of pose would you strike if an automated, floating magical camera was pointed at you during a cross-continental vacation?
