A Loose Cultivator's Path to Longevity
Chapter 707: Jade Water Abyss
Lü Zhong’s guess was correct.
The Golden-haired Monkey was halfway across the hall when his gaze suddenly landed on Lü Zhong. With a flash of golden light, he teleported several dozen feet through the air, appearing directly before him.
The two were now face-to-face.
Seeing this, the nearby Demon Cultivators naturally stirred.
Those who considered themselves powerful remained where they were to watch. But those who knew they were weak didn’t dare to linger, choosing to retreat far away, lest they get caught in the crossfire.
There was a piece of common knowledge in the Boundless Sea that nearly every demon knew.
When a Water Flood Dragon and a Golden Water Ape met, nothing good ever came of it. What’s more, these two were close in strength. A full-blown fight would undoubtedly drag in bystanders.
“Where did this wild flood dragon come from? It has some nerve, showing its face here when it knew that I, Jin Yuan, would be present.” At that moment, the Golden-haired Monkey’s ears twitched—someone had clearly sent him a voice transmission. Once he understood the background of the Flood Dragon Race member before him, his eyes shifted, and he suddenly barked out a reprimand.
‘A wild flood dragon?’ Lü Zhong sneered. He knew exactly what the monkey was plotting.
‘This Water Monkey is clever. He’s branded me as a wild flood dragon right away—an unattached beast. This way, if he beats or even kills me, he’ll have an excuse when the Water Palace demands answers.’
‘Should I kill this beast?’ he wondered.
‘A Golden Water Ape’s Primordial Spirit is no ordinary thing. If I refine it into the Water Flood Dragon Banner, I might be able to upgrade the Water Control Divine Technique to the Water Manipulation Divine Technique, greatly increasing the treasure’s power.’
‘Under the guise of the Flood Dragon Race, I wouldn’t have to fear the consequences of killing this Golden Water Ape.’
‘Every grievance has its source, every debt its debtor.’
‘A Water Flood Dragon did the killing, so they can go look for a Water Flood Dragon. What does that have to do with me, an Immortal Cultivator?’
‘How tempting!’
Just as Lü Zhong was contemplating how to make his move smoothly…
“You two. Do you think I am so old and feeble that you need not show me any respect? Are you planning to cause a scene?”
The Golden Meng Water Monarch on the high seat suddenly spoke. The Demon Qi of a Late-stage Transformation cultivator erupted from him, instantly stunning the hall into silence and demonstrating the majesty of a Great Demon.
Jin Yuan, at the center of the whirlpool, felt even greater pressure.
“I wouldn’t dare!” Jin Yuan cupped his hands and distanced himself from Lü Zhong.
He was the Great Young Master of the Great Saint Jin Guang, but he was *only* the Great Young Master. If not for that title, the Golden Meng Water Monarch probably wouldn’t have just issued a warning, but would have personally moved to capture him.
As one of the top Great Demons in the Coral Palace, the Water Monarch’s status was self-evident. Even if he really killed Jin Yuan, he would at most be reprimanded.
The Great Saint Jin Guang would very likely do just that. After all, the Golden Water Ape clan was large and prosperous; losing one Jin Yuan was no big deal.
And just like that, a conflict was dispelled before it could begin.
Lü Zhong could only think what a pity it was.
In the eyes of the other Demon Cultivators, however, it was the Water Flood Dragon who had narrowly escaped disaster.
The Great Young Master Jin Yuan’s strength, though only mid-tier among the Golden Water Apes and no match for his own brothers, was still not something a mere wild flood dragon could withstand. If the two came to blows, all the Demon Cultivators unanimously believed the result would be the Water Flood Dragon getting skinned alive and its tendons pulled out.
“Fellow Daoist Shui, you really are lucky!” the Turtle Daoist next to him said, shaking his head.
Lü Zhong gave a faint smile and didn’t waste his breath arguing. The truly lucky one was that Water Monkey.
‘What a pity. I didn’t get that Golden Water Ape Primordial Spirit. Otherwise, the Water Flood Dragon Banner could have been upgraded. Based on my calculations, the upgraded banner’s power would most likely surpass the Black Flood Dragon Banner.’
That said, avoiding trouble was also a good thing.
After all, the master of this place was not to be trifled with.
The Golden Meng Water Monarch’s true form was a Golden Mongolia Green-eyed Beast, also a unique, heaven-born species. Its innate talent, however, was slightly inferior. Though it was also born with a Combat Divine Technique, the Golden Mongolia Green-eyed Beast’s Light-Splitting Water Eye was always considered a notch below the Golden Water Ape’s Water Manipulation Divine Technique.
‘Light-Splitting Water Eye…’ Lü Zhong repeated the name to himself.
‘According to the ancient records, this eye is considered a top-tier Spiritual Eye. While it can’t compare to the Celestial Net Secret Eye, its visual power is still astonishing. It shouldn’t be limited to just shooting light beams to injure people.’
‘This Golden Meng Water Monarch is not simple. I’m afraid he’s sensed something.’
Thinking this, Lü Zhong extinguished the idea in his mind.
Once the Great Young Master was seated, the banquet reached its climax.
Accompanied by the sounds of wind and percussion instruments, another troupe of Clam Maidens filed in. But unlike the previous times, the gazes of every Demon Cultivator in the hall were now focused on the trays in their hands.
“Pearl Spirit Potion!”
This was the price the Golden Meng Water Monarch was offering to recruit followers.
For the Demon Cultivators in the hall, the Pearl Spirit Potion was incredibly valuable. If they could consume and refine it, it would be worth many years of bitter cultivation. The benefits of this treasure weren’t just reflected in one’s cultivation level; it was also highly beneficial for a Demon Cultivator’s future Transformation. The Pearl Spirit Potion had the effect of purifying Demon Power, which could reduce the difficulty of Transformation.
The Clam Maidens entered the hall and began to distribute it to everyone.
Even those in the upper seats only received two taels.
The Demon Cultivators at the hall’s entrance only got to drink a mouthful of the bottle-rinsing water.
Even so, the Demon Cultivators treated it like a priceless treasure. Not only did they drink it all in one gulp, but they even licked their cups clean. If they weren’t afraid of offending the Water Monarch, they probably would have eaten the cups themselves.
At this very moment, however, Lü Zhong found himself in a difficult position.
‘The Pearl Spirit Potion is valuable, but only for Demon Cultivators. For an Immortal Cultivator like me, it’s only effective for Mystic Cultivators. To someone at my level, who has a Pure Spirit Body, the Pearl Spirit Potion is actually an impurity. There’s no benefit to consuming it at all.’
And yet, for some reason—perhaps the Golden Meng Water Monarch had lost his mind—Lü Zhong’s cup contained the third-largest portion of Pearl Spirit Potion in the hall, surpassed only by what the Water Monarch himself and the Water Monkey received.
