Chapter 26: One Man Army (2)

Jaxir ignored the splitting pain in his head, his eyes darting around. He pulled on his three L1 abilities at the same time, his chants layering over one another in a smudged mix of ancient characters.

It almost sounded like he was trying to say three things at the same time, but in reality he was hopping from one chant to the next, his mind sliding the characters into place one at a time as though he was putting together three puzzle pieces at once.

And then they burst forward.

Bind caught the first tank that he sent sliding back.

Wither slammed into a tank struggling to get to her feet.

Fracture collided with a last tank currently the absolute closest to him.

Shadows writhed, bolts of crimson, dark gold fell from the skies, the echo of shattering glass filling the space of chaos they all fell within.

Jaxir spun, aiming his staff toward the tank he had just landed Fracture on. Three magic bullets formed, rotating around one another into a compressed laser beam of three spiraling projectiles.

Their gravity pushed and pulled against one another, sending them spinning faster and faster until they reached a peak.

BANG.

Jaxir sent three quick magic bullets back to back to back in swift succession.

The tank fell to his knees, entering a crippled state in the blink of an eye. When the third magic bullet fell, his eyes went white, his body went limp, and his form vanished into motes of light soon afterward.

Jaxir pulled out a card from his hip and activated it.

Name: Static Charge

Grade: Common

MP Cost: 1

Description: Charge yourself. The next time an enemy makes contact, they take burst damage.

Recommended Classes: Magic; Tank

A shield bashed against his back and he stumbled forward.

Leveled Up!

The tank blinked, not believing he had only done 7 damage against a magic class. Even if it was only a shield bash, that didn’t make any sense at―

Sparks of electricity coated his body and he froze in place.

The HP Jaxir just lost was immediately replenished on his level up. But more importantly... so too did his MP. Without missing a beat, he caught himself before he fell, and spun around.

His staff was raised to the face of the tanks and he Charged two magic bullets at the same time.

The tank could barely see Jaxir’s grinning features behind the glowing mana. And in that brief instant, he could swear he was looking into the maw of a demon.

BANG.

The head of the tank snapped back and vision went dizzy.

He was the tank Bind had been applied to. In one part, that was why all he could do was shield bash and hope for the best. And in second part, he had no defensive skills he could use to counter what was happening to him right now.

[-98]

The tank fell to a knee. Jaxir didn’t expect this. In fact, he had only used two magic bullets because he had already diverted his third cast to forming another use of Fracture.

Realizing something new about the game, Jaxir changed his mind last minute. He was going to cast Fracture on the tank right in front of him, but instead he picked a fourth target, yet another one of the tanks he hadn’t targeted at the start.

A land of fragmented glass appeared around them.

’The closer I am to them, the more damage I can do. And depending on where I land the strike, if that area has armor covering it or not, and if there are any whiplash or added effects, the amount of damage I can do changes as well.’

Jaxir greedily consumed this information. His mind still felt like he was constantly brushing dust off of it, knocking off cobwebs, turning on the light.

His speed of thought continued to increase, more and more of the Jaxir he had once been shining through like a beaming beacon in the night.

And the more confident he grew, the more wild his actions became.

Jaxir sent a magic bullet at the knee of the swaying tank before him. The latter almost immediately collapsed.

"Apologies for this." Jaxir sent, a hint of amusement and teasing in his tone.

He stuffed the end of his staff into the tank’s mouth and fired.

BANG.

[Critical Hit!]

[-172]

Two tanks down.

Jaxir completely changed how he played the game.

He was quickly being surrounded again. Only a few seconds had passed, but that was enough for his initial burst of Twinkle Mana to fade. Now, more than the tanks and Aidylan were aware of his insane actions.

"Ah, so that’s how you get a critical hit." Jaxir laughed in the midst of the chaos, seemingly uninterested in hiding his exact whereabouts any longer. "And that should also mean..."

A third tank fell, dead.

This time, Jaxir hadn’t done much at all. That tank just happened to be the one he cast Wither on earlier, and as the last of the smoke and mana cleared from the air, everyone laid eyes on him at the same time to see him pointing his staff at the man he had only just cast Fracture on.

Three, swirling masses of mana forming into rotating spheres appeared.

"This one is going to hurt." Jaxir said with a wry smile and a shake of his head as though he truly felt bad about it.

BOOM.

The tank’s head was swallowed by the blast.

[Critical Hit!]

Fracture Lv10 > Fracture Lv13

Jaxir grinned ear to ear. What he realized just then was that the fracturing lines of his L1 Ability Fracture weren’t there just for show. They formed fault lines in the body of a target, and those fault lines were what made mana strikes hit more brutally.

But that also meant that if he targeted them with precision, he could increase his chances of getting a critical hit by a large margin.

And if he aimed for a fault line that was already in a vulnerable location like the head, well...

The fourth tank was down.

Jaxir’s staff spun in his hand as though it was a practiced motion he had done a million times before.

His Twinkle Armor finally blinked out of existence. The last shield bash, ironically enough, had done it in. But that was a price that he was more than willing to pay for four of five tanks being out now.

The surroundings were a complete mess, the field in tatters, and equipment just laying about to be picked up by anyone.

"You see? This is what happens when people don’t know how to negotiate properly."

Jaxir’s staff stopped spinning, suddenly pinning itself between his body and elbow as though the cane of a very wealthy man.

Well, he was a very wealthy man.

He looked out toward the over 20 enemies that still remained.

Aidylan was heaving for breath. He had no idea how he was going to explain this to the higher ups. But the one thing that he was absolutely certain of was the fact if he didn’t at least kill Jaxir, the punishment would only be worse.

But with only one tank remaining...

A crackle of lightning fell, dried leaves that smelt of death spinning around the last tank.

"Whoops, my finger slipped."

No tanks remaining.

Aidylan’s expression flashed with rage.

"BLITZ HIM!" Aidylan roared.

There was no need or time for a formation anymore. Jaxir couldn’t possibly cast Wither over 20 times. Even if he had the mana to do it, the chants would take too long. Plus, Aidylan still had one more card up his sleeve he had yet to use.

Since they already lost so many members, who cared about losing more?

Their top priority right now was to rip Jaxir to pieces.
