A God Killed Me By Accident, But I Reincarnated As The 4th Son Of The Marquis
Volume 16 Chapter 40: Sarah and Michael’s Origin
While Keith’s group ventured into the dungeon, Sophia and the other ladies had their own concerns they needed to address.
Sarah scratched her head, “Marchioness, there is no need for me to do this.” She was taken aback when Sophia came to her restaurant and brought her to Francis’s shop.
Sophia smiled, “There is no need to hold back; your wedding is a big day. Do not hold back.” A wedding was the biggest moment for any woman.
“Yes! A wedding is an important moment.” Francis agreed as he took measurements. Today they had gone to Francis’s store to create a custom gown for her wedding.
Sarah scratched her head, “But I don’t think I have enough coins to buy such an expensive dress.” Of course, she wanted to buy one for her wedding. However, she also had to think about the future: spending so much in one instant wasn’t something she could allow herself. She would rather spend this on her restaurant.
“Take it as an investment, Sarah,” Sophia spoke, “This is a better way for Francis to appeal to the market.” It was a win-win situation for Sophia: she was assisting her friend’s wedding while also spreading Francis’s superb talents.
“You don’t need to be concerned with coins either. Sir Michael has more than enough to cover the dress.” May added. Michael’s wage as commander of the knights was hefty; he had more than enough coins to spend on her.
“And Michael informed me to make you use your coins.”
Sarah scratched her head, “…Understood.”
“Okay. I have finished your measurements; I’ll bring you a few stock dresses for you to try on. Then we can discuss how to customize afterward.” Francis headed to the back to grab a few.
While he did, Carolyn asked, “Sarah, I’m surprised you and Michael would get together.”
“Hmm?”
“Yes.” May nodded, “The dynamic between you two is, how to say…interesting?” Odd. She was trying her best to be fair to Michael, but it was difficult given his personality.
Who could blame her? When she visited the restaurant with the butlers and knights, she would see the two arguing. A cat and a dog roaring at one another. Sarah would scold Michael for being so brash; she would even send him flying if he angered her too much. It reached the point where the knights and workers were numb to it. For them to get married took them all by surprise.
The children glanced up at Sarah, curious.
“I am curious as well; the two of you have known each other for years,” Sophia added.
“Well, I found him annoying in the beginning,” Sarah mumbled as her complexion flushed; she and Michael went way back, further back than when May started working at the mansion. She was working as a waiter at the restaurant while Michael was a trainee.
“When we were at your age, we fought a lot. Logan would always break it up between us.” Sarah could remember it all, “Then I got married, and we stopped talking as much as before.” After getting married, there was a barrier between the two.
“That person,” Sophia grumbled when she remembered Sarah’s first husband. Even May grimaced at him, having met him once.
“After getting a divorce from him, I was not in a good place.” Sarah rubbed her hands, “And to make matters worse, Michael would come to the restaurant and make a mess.” The first thing he would do was to drink the entire place down and cause fights.
“Thinking back, I think he was doing it to take my mind off the divorce.” It was stupid, but it got her mind off the divorce.
“But he had to cause that mess?”
“...” May and the others could imagine it.
“I think when I had feelings for him was when he brought coins over to me when Milly was sick.”
“When was this?” Carolyn and May slightly leaned forward as they stared. Milly was also surprised by this revelation.
Sarah explained, “This was when you were little; you were sick, and I didn’t have enough coins to buy you medicine. I planned to sell the store to help you.” That restaurant was her lifeline. But for her daughter, nothing mattered.
“That was when he came.” Michael had entered on a rainy day,
“What’s the matter with you?” He noticed her sitting all alone inside the restaurant.
“Nothing. Why are you here? We’re not open.” Sarah tried to maintain her composure before him. Michael frowned before dropping a bag on the table, “Here.” There was no explanation as he walked away. Sarah looked at the bag to see gold coins inside!
“I think that’s the reason I came to like him.” Sarah smiled, “Sometimes I’ve even wondered if I deserve him.” She was married and had a child. To think he would ask her out. Michael was the commander and could choose whoever he wanted.
“Michael is not the type to think about these matters.” Sophia smiled, “He is a simple-minded person, but that is exactly why he is a good man.” That just means he would only love her and her alone.
“Plus, you’re good for him,” Carolyn added.
“Indeed,” Sophia nodded, “You’re someone who would keep him grounded.” Michael these days hadn’t been exploding. He was quite calm and composed.
“I guess I am.”
