A Gamer's System: My Team of Beauties as the Strongest Jungler.
Chapter 45: Stalking a city.
The morning sun cut through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, heating the polished hardwood floor, but the two men sweating on it were entirely oblivious to the view.
Karl stood in the archway of the kitchen, holding a ceramic mug of black coffee, and watched the integration process unfold.
It was less of an integration and more of a systematic dismantling of human dignity.
The two varsity athletes from Barton University, the same ones who had tried to punch him in the cafeteria not too long ago, were currently holding a plank position. Their arms trembled violently under the strain.
Sweat dripped from their noses, pooling on the expensive rugs Karl had explicitly asked them not to bleed or sweat on.
Dori paced between them.
She wore her sleek black tactical gear, her pink hair tied back in a severe, tight ponytail.
She moved with a completely silent, predatory grace, stepping over their trembling legs like they were inconvenient pieces of furniture left in a hallway.
"Your hips are sagging," Dori said. Her voice was flat, completely devoid of any sympathy. "If your hips sag, your core is not engaged. If your core is not engaged, your balance is compromised, and you are entirely useless to me. Fix it right now."
The taller recruit, the one who used to walk the campus with absolute arrogance, let out a strained, pathetic wheeze. "We have been holding this position for ten unbroken minutes. I cannot feel my shoulders anymore."
Dori stopped pacing. She crouched down right next to his ear, her expression completely dead.
"Did I ask for a status report on your shoulders?" she whispered, her tone chilling the warm air of the room. "Because if a rival gang catches you slipping on a patrol, they are not going to care about your muscle fatigue. They are not going to call a timeout. They are going to put a jagged blade directly into your ribs and leave you to bleed out on the pavement. Ten more minutes."
Karl took a slow sip of his coffee.
He had to admit, bringing Dori in to manage his newly forming syndicate was the best tactical decision he could have made.
She understood the brutal, unforgiving reality of the streets, and she was currently beating that exact reality into two kids who had only ever known campus privilege and cafeteria brawls.
Elsa drifted into the kitchen behind Karl. She was wearing one of his oversized, dark t-shirts, the hem falling halfway down her thighs, leaving her long legs bare.
She bumped her hip gently against his, reaching over to steal a sip from his mug without bothering to ask for permission.
"She is utterly terrifying," Elsa murmured, resting her chin comfortably on Karl’s broad shoulder and watching the torture session in the living room. "Remind me never to complain about your strict jungle rotations again."
Karl wrapped a free arm around her narrow waist, pulling her flush against his side. The clean, intoxicating scent of her expensive floral soap mixed with the harsh, metallic smell of sweat radiating from the recruits. He pressed a soft kiss against her temple.
"She is establishing a clear hierarchy," Karl explained, his voice low enough that Dori would not catch the words. "They need to understand that the soft rules of the university absolutely do not apply here. We are playing a completely different game now, and the stakes are infinitely higher."
Elsa hummed in quiet agreement, her fingers tracing idle, soothing patterns on his chest. "Well, your little private army is certainly coming together. Though I honestly think the shorter one is about to pass out on your floor."
Right on cue, the shorter recruit collapsed, his chest hitting the hardwood with a loud, resounding slap. He gasped for air like a fish thrown onto dry land, his limbs shaking uncontrollably.
Dori did not yell. She did not raise her voice at all. She simply stood over him, staring down with eyes so utterly dead and devoid of mercy that the boy scrambled back up into a plank position through sheer terror alone.
"Get up," Dori commanded quietly. "Or I will break your fingers myself so you have a real, medical excuse to rest."
Karl left Dori to finish her brutal conditioning session and retreated down the long, quiet hallway toward his master bedroom. He needed to check on his investments.
The heavy wooden door clicked shut, completely severing the sounds of the recruits whimpering in the living room. Karl sat down on the edge of his perfectly made bed and closed his eyes, centering his breathing.
’Initialize.’
The physical world dissolved instantly, peeling back like a heavy page being turned by an invisible hand. The soft mattress was replaced by the cold, unyielding stone of his massive throne. The World of the King stretched out before him, vast, shadowy, and endlessly echoing.
He did not have to wait long. A swirl of pale light gathered at the base of the stone dais, forming into the hooded, athletic silhouette of Charlotte.
She dropped to one knee against the polished black floor, her twin blades resting securely at her sides.
"Master," Charlotte said, her voice soft and deeply reverent in the cavernous space. "You have returned to us."
"Stand, Charlotte," Karl commanded gently, leaning forward on the throne. "Give me the status report. How is the hamlet functioning?"
She rose gracefully, her eyes lingering on his shadowed form with a quiet intensity that he was slowly learning to navigate and accept.
"The workers have been exceptionally diligent," she reported. "The river yields a steady supply of fish, and the eastern slope is nearly cleared of timber. We are generating resources and experience points at an optimal rate. The passive income has stabilized completely."
Karl called up the translucent blue system panel with a mere thought. The glowing numbers floated in the air before him. He had accumulated a massive amount of passive experience and funds over the last few weeks of careful management.
The sheer scale of wealth reminded him of a ten thousand multiplier investment mechanic he had once theorized about, where small, calculated risks compounded into absolute dominance. He had more than enough capital right now to make a substantial leap forward.
’System, open the infrastructure tab.’
He scrolled past the minor, incremental upgrades and locked his gaze on the exact entry he had been waiting patiently for.
Settlement, Tier One - 12,000 EXP.
It was a massive expenditure, enough to drain a significant portion of his reserves, but he desperately needed the expanded population limit and the advanced structures it promised.
’Purchase.’
The entire digital domain shuddered violently.
Karl gripped the stone arms of his throne as a deep, resonant rumble vibrated through the floorboards beneath him. In the distance, far beyond the invisible walls of his cavernous hall, the digital landscape began to physically alter itself.
The small, clustered wooden huts of the hamlet expanded rapidly. Stone foundations ripped themselves out of the earth with loud, grinding cracks. Larger, multi-level structures assembled themselves piece by piece, forming a sprawling, fortified settlement right along the winding riverbank. The population count on his interface skyrocketed as new citizens materialized to fill the territory.
"It is beautiful," Charlotte murmured, stepping slightly closer to the dais, completely captivated by the sudden, explosive expansion of their world. "Your territory grows exponentially, Master."
Karl was busy reading the new notifications cascading rapidly down his vision.
[Settlement Tier One achieved.
New population limit: 500.
New facilities available: Marketplace, Barracks, Surveillance Center.
System Shop updated with real-world utility items.]
Karl immediately opened the newly updated shop interface. The consumables and blessings tabs had shifted aside, revealing a brand new category labeled Network.
He scanned the items, his heart performing a sudden, heavy beat against his ribs as he read the descriptions.
Ocular Drone Blueprint - 1,500 EXP. Deploys an undetectable, real-world surveillance drone linked directly to the Administrator’s cognitive interface.
Intercept Algorithm - 3,000 EXP. Grants temporary access to unencrypted digital communications within a designated real-world radius.
Karl stared at the glowing blue text in absolute awe. This changed everything about how he operated.
He was no longer just building a fantasy kingdom in his head to harvest passive income. The system was giving him the direct tools to establish an absolute, untouchable surveillance network out there in Barton City.
He could deploy these invisible drones to monitor Yajn and the dangerous remnants of the Black Snakes. He could keep eyes on Miss Vera’s vindictive ex-boyfriend and his corporate cronies without ever having to leave the safety of the penthouse.
’This is macro play on a completely different scale,’ Karl thought, his analytical mind racing through the endless tactical possibilities. ’In competitive matches, vision control dictates the entire flow of the game. If I have total vision control over the physical map of this city, no one can ever ambush us again. I can track enemy rotations in the real world exactly the same way I track them in the lanes.’
"You have found something valuable," Charlotte noted softly, breaking him out of his intense, silent focus.
Karl looked down at her. She was standing very close to the base of the throne now. Her head was tilted slightly, and her absolute devotion to him was completely undisguised in her posture.
"I found a way to make sure nothing ever catches us off guard again," Karl told her, a rare spark of fierce determination lighting up his usually deadpan features. "I am going to secure the entire city."
Charlotte smiled, a rare, genuine expression that brightened the dark shadows beneath her grey hood.
"I would expect nothing less from you," she said, her voice dropping into a quiet, deeply intimate cadence that echoed warmly in the hall. "Command me, Master, and I will gladly help you tear down whatever stands in your way."
Karl severed the mental connection, the grand stone hall fading seamlessly back into the pristine white walls of his physical bedroom.
He opened his eyes, the digital panel still hovering faintly in his peripheral vision. He had a brutal syndicate training session happening right now in his living room, a massive fortune sitting safely in his bank account, and now, the unprecedented ability to watch all of his enemies directly from the sky.
It was finally time to take complete control of the board.
