Chapter 634: Offering Discipleship P2
“I… I can’t believe it… they… they’re real. All the Golden Rebirth Fruits are real,” Reymon said as he confirmed with his senses.
His voice sounded like he had forgotten how to speak. “But… How did you get so many? Did you steal them from the Hall’s vault?”
He narrowed his eyes, suspicion flashing in them. But within seconds, his expression changed again. He shook his head slowly, almost talking to himself.
“No… no, that’s impossible. Even the Hall doesn’t have this many. Including the ones I kept hidden, we don’t even have eighty in total. There’s no way anyone could produce this many in Sharang using normal means.”
His breathing turned heavy, almost desperate, and his voice rose without him meaning to.
“How… How did you do this? Where did you get them?” he asked, stepping forward, eyes shaking like he was on the edge of losing control.
His gaze burned with a mixture of hope, greed, fear, and raw emotion — the kind seen in a dying man who suddenly glimpsed a cure.
He looked at Aksai as if he was ready to run across mountains, deserts, or storms if given a single hint.
Aksai did not stand or change his calm posture. He leaned back a little, folded his arms across his chest, and watched Reymon as if studying every change in his mind and heart. His voice was steady and slow when he finally spoke.
“Where I got them from is not important. Become my disciple and I’ll let you have all of them.”
Reymon opened his mouth, shocked and ready to speak, but Aksai lifted a finger, cutting him off gently before any words came out.
“That’s not all,” Aksai continued.
“I will also help you raise the yearly growth rate of the Golden Rebirth Fruits. From the small number of five to seven fruits you barely manage every year, you will be able to produce at least a hundred.
“With that, you can not only regain your lost strength in a few years, but grow far beyond what the Hall could have achieved in another hundred years on its own.”
Reymon stood frozen, unable to form a reply. His heart seemed too full for his voice to work. But Aksai did not stop there. His tone remained clear and even, as if he was stating simple facts.
“I will also give you three perfected Aurous level techniques. With those, the strength of Sharang will rise as a whole. The path of an Aurous Artist will no longer be a rare dream. It will become the first proper step for all future martial cultivators.”
Reymon’s pupils shook. His throat tightened. His eyes slowly turned moist as everything began to fall into place — Aksai’s attitude, his actions, and the deadly method he chose during the battle.
Reymon looked at the fallen Aurous warriors lying throughout the broken city and finally understood that Aksai had not destroyed the Hall… he had reset it.
He lowered his gaze and whispered, voice trembling,
“Why… why help me so much? Didn’t I offend you?”
Aksai uncrossed his arms, leaned forward slightly, and spoke with honesty instead of warmth.
“I don’t get offended so easily. Do you think of me as some young master with a face to lose? I am shameless when it comes to such things.
“Also, you are the sword that will fight the corrupted druids. If I wish to target them, it is natural that I sharpen the sword with everything I have.”
Reymon closed his eyes for a moment, then looked back at Aksai. His voice cracked with doubt.
“Aren’t you afraid that after I take these benefits, I might not listen to you anymore? After all… I’m sure you won’t be able to return once you leave Sharang.”
Aksai’s expression did not change. His voice stayed calm, almost casual, as if he were talking about tomorrow’s weather.
“Reymon, men with weak resolve spare their enemies after defeating them. Men who cultivate strength and firm resolve uproot future troubles by killing their enemies right after defeating them. But do you know where the true strength of a man lies?”
He left his question unanswered briefly before speaking further.
“It’s when a man learns to turn his enemies into allies through various means. It might not be possible for everyone, and it might not always work. But when a man succeeds, it changes the direction of his fate.
“It takes guts to spare one’s enemies, and one must also make sure they always remain the stronger party between them. So the act of constantly pursuing strength and improving oneself becomes a necessity.
“One also needs a bit of cunning and the instinct to sense rebellion. But if one meets such requirements, they might turn their weakness into their greatest strength.
“My old man always used to say that people eventually find what they are looking for in life, and it partly depends on us whether we see a friend or a foe in someone.
“I’m telling you this because I want to take a gamble on you for my own reasons. Of course, I have my countermeasures in place.
“I may not be able to enter Sharang myself, but I still have ways to reach you through my underlings. Do you think someone like me wouldn’t be able to find a loophole around such an obvious restriction?” Aksai asked Reymon.
Reymon felt a cold chill run through his whole body when he heard Aksai’s calm words. There was no loud threat, no killing intent, and no harsh tone, yet the meaning behind those words made his heart beat faster.
It was clear that Aksai had already thought many steps ahead. And that he wasn’t scared of him no matter what he could do.
If Reymon agreed, he could rise higher than he ever dreamed. If he refused, he saw no path where he could stand against Aksai or survive future dangers.
Furthermore, no matter what he chose, it wouldn’t be Aksai’s loss at all.
