Chapter 76: Into the Northern Wasteland

"Master, I won’t talk anymore. I’m going to pack."

"Hey..."

He ran off so quickly.

Bai He also quickly go back to his own room.

The Great Northern Wasteland did not require money, so there was no need to bring any.

But they would likely need plenty of magical tools, just in case.

Bai He gathered up all the weapons and magical tools that was left behind by his own Master, which is no different from bringing the entire arsenal with him.

Just as he was nearly done packing, there was a knock at the door.

Bai He set down the two bracelets in his hands and went to open it.

"Shiyuan."

"Master, are you and Junior Brother truly going to accompany me to the Great Northern Wasteland?"

"We’ve already agreed on it. Why ask again?" Bai He turned around. "I’ve already packed. Don’t worry, I absolutely won’t hold you back. I can protect Xiao Feng as well."

With his magical tools, protecting himself would absolutely not be a problem.

"Master, that’s not what I meant."

"I know that’s not what you meant, but that’s what I mean! If going there would only make me a burden to you, I definitely wouldn’t go!"

Ye Shiyuan hesitated as if he wanted to speak but held back.

In truth, he did not necessarily have to go.

Yao Xiangli had assigned him this task for no other reason than that he had refused to return to Yaoxing Peak.

"Master, I’m sorry."

"For no reason at all, what are you apologizing for?"

"Master, because I refused to go back, the Sect Master... he may vent his anger at me onto you."

Ye Shiyuan did not want Bai He to be scolded by Yao Xiangli because of him.

By then, Bai He had already put on the two bracelets and hiding them within his sleeves so they could not be seen.

Everything else had been stored in his storage ring, leaving him feeling light and unburdened.

"I’m already used to being scolded. Didn’t you know? Whenever I attended the elders’ assembly, I would always doze off and he would always reprimand me. A little more won’t make any difference."

It wasn’t his fault.

Every time Yao Xiangli held an elders’ meeting, it was even more dull and tedious than the mathematics classes he remembered from long ago.

A faint curve lifted at the corner of Ye Shiyuan’s lips as though he had just recalled a certain scene.

Bai He scratched his head somewhat awkwardly.

"That must be amusing to you."

"Master, the Sect Master does indeed enjoy saying unnecessary things."

"Exactly! Something that could be finished in half an hour, he insists on dragging out to two."

At the same time, a quick footsteps could be heard from outside.

"Master! Senior Brother! I’ve finished packing. When are we leaving?"

"We’ll depart tonight. Once Xiao Cui and Xiao Wan return, I’ll inform them and then we’ll go."

"Alright." Xu Feng agreed happily.

Xiao Cui and Xiao Wan had originally been left behind by Bai He’s own Master to take care of him.

The two of them had always lived in a steady and predictable manner, never deviating from routine.

When the time came and they returned, Bai He gave them a few simple instructions before summoning the Sky Cutting Sword.

During this period, the Sky Cutting Sword had become somewhat more obedient.

It must have been because his strength had improved slightly; naturally, controlling the sword had become much easier.

As for Xu Feng, after this period of cultivation, his sword-riding skills had become quite proficient.

The Great Northern Wasteland lay at the northernmost edge of the world.

It was uninhabited by humans, yet it was home to ferocious beasts of immense strength and terrifying nature.

They frequently slaughtered and devoured one another.

Any beast that managed to survive there was unquestionably at the pinnacle of power.

Upon entering the borders of the wasteland, a chill could be felt immediately.

The surrounding air itself seemed different.

There was no trace of green and only endless desolation.

Even the mountains were nothing but heaps of accumulated yellow sand.

The three of them descended upon a mountain peak and saw, in the distance, tornadoes twisting endlessly, stirring up waves of sand.

The sky was not dark, but a dim, ashen gray.

There was no distinction between day and night here, only this perpetually gloomy weather.

Bai He swallowed his saliva unconsciously, feeling a sudden tension rise within him.

Why did his head feel slightly dizzy?

Wait... this did not seem like an illusion.

It truly felt as though something was moving.

Could it be that there were earthquakes here as well?

"Master, be careful!" Ye Shiyuan shouted.

With one arm, he wrapped it firmly around Bai He’s waist.

Only then did Bai He react, it was not him, nor was it anything else acting strangely.

It was the very mountain they had landed on that was moving.

Ye Shiyuan immediately carried Bai He and flew into the distance.

Xu Feng also retreated quickly.

Only then did they clearly see that what had appeared to be a mountain was no mountain at all, it was a ferocious beast sitting there asleep.

No one knew how long it had slumbered; its entire body had been buried beneath layers of yellow sand.

Now that it had awakened, it shook the sand from its body and slowly stood up.

Bai He’s gaze traveled upward little by little along the towering mass.

He swallowed his saliva nervously once more.

What in the world was that?

How could it be so tall?

Did creatures of such immense size truly exist in this world?

No, he should call it a ferocious beast.

Fortunately, this thing could only survive within the Great Northern Wasteland and could not leave.

Otherwise, who knew how many people would suffer because of such a monster?

Aside from Ye Shiyuan who remained relatively calm, Xu Feng was hardly better off than Bai He.
