A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1056 - 1056
Knocked one person down.
His hands were now equipped with a "weapon."
Dirk Carter seemed even more composed.
The remaining three, though possessing some "combat power," appeared inadequate before Dirk Carter. After some back and forth, within a few minutes, two of the three were knocked down.
Despite taking a few hits on his arm, it wasn't a big issue for Dirk Carter.
The last person, seeing Dirk Carter's fighting prowess, was somewhat intimidated.
Just as Dirk Carter was about to swiftly deal with the last person.
Suddenly.
A loud shout erupted from the distance: "Stop!"
Following the sound.
A person emerged from behind a pillar.
A chubby young man.
This man was none other than Farrell Lowell.
Farrell Lowell was holding a pistol, aiming it precisely at Dirk Carter.
Though his eyes were determined.
Dirk Carter noticed that his hand was trembling a bit.
"Don't move, if you move again, I'll kill you!"
Seemingly to bolster his courage.
Farrell Lowell said viciously.
Then, he shouted at the people lying on the ground: "Get up now, a bunch of useless fools."
The people whimpered and crawled up, gathering around Farrell Lowell.
"Dirk Carter, you're quite the fighter, didn't expect a leader to have such skills. But so what, what good does fighting do you? Can you be faster than a bullet?"
Farrell Lowell said smugly and shook the gun in his hand.
"So, you brought me here to kill me?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Farrell Lowell roared: "Why? Can't I? Shouldn't I kill you? My life was going well, and you messed around, making me a wanted man. Killing you multiple times wouldn't be enough."
"Will you get away with killing me?"
Dirk Carter asked.
"That's none of your concern, you couldn't catch me before, and you won't catch me now either. Dirk Carter, you'd never expected that a year from today would be your death anniversary. I want you to regret every choice you've made!"
Farrell Lowell said in a sinister tone.
Dirk Carter threw away the water pipe he was holding.
Casually sat down on the cement platform.
Litting a cigarette, he calmly said, "Whether a year from today will be my death anniversary is uncertain, but it will certainly be yours, do you believe it?"
"Hahaha... Dirk Carter, who gave you this confidence? If I pull the trigger now, your life will be over, and you're still playing psychological games with me? Go to hell!"
Farrell Lowell suddenly raised the pistol.
As he was about to shoot.
Dirk Carter shouted, "Wait!"
Farrell Lowell was stunned.
Then laughed again: "What? Are you scared?"
Dirk Carter waved his hand.
Said, "If I were scared, I wouldn't be here. I'm not an idiot; I knew you intended harm, yet I still came. Do you know why?"
"Why?"
Farrell Lowell asked.
Dirk Carter smiled slightly, saying, "Because I want to save your life!"
Farrell Lowell was stunned again, asking, "What do you mean?"
Dirk Carter slowly stood up.
Said, "Because I know, if you shoot me now, the person behind you will also kill you. Do you really think after murdering a Secretary General of the Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, you'll leave safely? The person pushing you to kill me, will he take such a large risk? Farrell Lowell, I'd advise you to wake up..."
His words caused Farrell Lowell to waver.
But reality still defeated him.
No matter what, he couldn't fall into Dirk Carter's hands, so Dirk Carter's words seemed to him merely as a way to stall for time.
"Do you really think I would believe you?"
Farrell Lowell asked.
Dirk Carter chuckled.
Said, "It's simple, how about we make a bet?"
"What kind of bet?"
"You, shoot at me now. Of course, not to really kill me but to let those outside hear that you've killed me. And then see if anyone lays a finger on you as you walk away proudly."
Dirk Carter said.
Farrell Lowell pondered for a moment and asked, "Why should I believe you? Once I leave, you'll definitely escape."
"I won't run. You can assign someone to control me, or you can have someone tie me to this pillar."
His words forced Farrell Lowell to question Dirk Carter's sincerity.
After a few minutes of brief contemplation.
Farrell Lowell nodded.
Said, "Fine, I'll trust you this once."
After saying that, he fired a shot beside Dirk Carter, the gunshot reverberating in the night for a while before quieting down. Then, Farrell Lowell handed the gun to one of his lackeys, saying, "Watch him, wait for my return!"
At that moment, Farrell Lowell appeared somewhat hesitant.
But to verify Dirk Carter's words, he took the risk.
He didn't want to be a fool, killing someone, only to be removed by others in return; that would be a huge loss.
With a nervous heart.
Farrell Lowell walked to the entrance of the quarry, taking a deep breath, then stepped out the dilapidated gate, standing in the darkness for a while. Nothing unusual occurred.
"Brother Lowell, have we been tricked?"
A lackey asked timidly.
Farrell Lowell nodded.
Cursed.
Said, "Go fetch the rope from the car, I'll teach him a lesson for tricking me."
"Sure thing."
The lackey obediently went to the car.
After grabbing the rope, just as he was about to get out of the car, a loud explosion was heard.
The car they were in exploded directly.
Debris flew in all directions, followed by flames, engulfing the vehicle in an inferno instantly. As for the lackey who had fetched the rope, he was likely done for.
Upon the explosion.
Farrell Lowell fell to the ground in fright.
When he lifted his head, the scene before him made him tremble.
No time to hesitate.
He and the other two fled back to the quarry as if running for their lives.
Immense fear made their bodies tremble relentlessly.
It took a tremendous effort.
For Farrell Lowell to steady his frantic heart.
Looking at Dirk Carter again, he shivered violently.
Ran to him, dropped to his knees with a thud: "Secretary General Carter, Secretary General Carter, I was wrong! I don't want to die! I really don't want to die; please save me, please save me..."
"Are you willing to believe me now?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Farrell Lowell nodded his head like a sieve.
He said, "I believe, I believe you! Please take me away; I don't want to die, I don't want to die at all..."
"Tell me, who sent you to kill me?"
Dirk Carter asked sternly.
Farrell Lowell's face showed fear.
He swallowed, saying, "It was... Deputy Secretary Lane Quincy of the Municipal Party Committee, he... he sent me..."
