A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1054 - 1054:
No profit, no early riser.
Since Jasmine Summers would come looking, she definitely has a request.
Lane Quincy asked, "Comrade Jasmine, what do you want?"
Jasmine Summers immediately waved her hand.
She said, "Leader, you've misunderstood. I'm not using Farrell Lowell to make a deal with you. I just feel that Secretary General Carter is too high-profile. If not curtailed, he is bound to mess up the political landscape of Silverwood City. By doing this, I am acting in the best interest of leadership and Silverwood City."
After saying that sentence.
Jasmine Summers directly placed a folded note in front of Lane Quincy.
Then she stood up and said, "Leader, you're busy with work, so I won't disturb you anymore."
After leaving that sentence, Jasmine Summers left.
Once she left.
Lane Quincy impatiently opened the note.
There was an address and a phone number written on it.
It seems this is where Farrell Lowell is hiding.
Judging from the current situation, Dirk Carter could rely on the Brent Lowell case to gain fame in Silverwood City.
This is not what Lane Quincy wanted to see.
As long as Farrell Lowell is used wisely, the threat of Dirk Carter might be completely eliminated.
Why not?
Thinking this.
Lane Quincy pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
After a few rings, the call connected.
Before the other party could speak, Lane Quincy directly said, "See you at noon, usual place..."
...
The Silverwood City Supervisory Group's residence.
Dirk Carter was sitting in the office reading the dossier.
Heath Woods walked in.
Dirk Carter looked up and asked, "How is it? Any news?"
Heath Woods shook his head and said, "The people who went to Rivenhall called back. They've been to Polly Linden's old home. Her family confirmed that Polly Linden hasn't called home for over a month. Previously, she used to wire ten thousand dollars home every month. She didn't wire any money for the past month, so it's safe to confirm that something happened to Polly Linden."
"What about the interrogation results?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Heath Woods looked worried.
He said, "Brent Lowell and Jessica Lancaster have confessed to other crimes, but they all remain silent about Polly Linden's matters. Brent Lowell just says three words: don't know. Jessica Lancaster sticks to the same rhetoric, saying Polly Linden resigned and went home, and that they haven't kept in touch."
This is not surprising.
Even with charges of corruption, bribery, and rape by a criminal syndicate, they wouldn't be sentenced to death.
But if Polly Linden was indeed murdered.
Then the problem becomes severe.
Anyone with a bit of sense wouldn't talk.
But on the side of the Discipline Inspection Commission, there is very little known about Polly Linden's situation.
The dancers from the troupes are unaware, and those who know aren't talking. Moreover, with no body found, it cannot be concluded that Polly Linden was murdered.
As it stands.
The case seems to be at an impasse.
But there is one definite lead.
Polly Linden disappeared after hosting a significant leader.
The current phase is to figure out this significant leader's identity; then, perhaps there will be a breakthrough in the Polly Linden case.
Generally speaking.
The hosting duties for leaders are handled personally by Brent Lowell.
Besides Polly Linden, there were two other females at the banquet that day. According to their testimonies, the big leader seemed to be in his fifties, stood under 1.8 meters, had an even build, and was humorous.
Thus.
Dirk Carter instructed Heath Woods to have the two women identify pictures of countywide leaders who fit those criteria.
Both dismissed them all.
Next.
Dirk Carter had Heath Woods bring pictures of the main leaders from Silverwood City's four major bodies and within all districts and counties for the two to identify.
Again, they were all dismissed.
As a last resort.
Photos of provincial leaders were also presented.
The result was the same; both women claimed the man wasn't in the photos.
It left Dirk Carter somewhat puzzled.
Could this so-called big leader be a business figure and not a political one?
If so, finding them would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
"Leader, do you think it might be..."
Heath Woods gestured upwards with his finger.
He was hinting that the "big leader" might be of higher rank than provincial leaders.
Dirk Carter shook his head and said, "If it's someone at a higher level, this person should have already reacted, not remain so calm. Moreover, someone in Brent Lowell's position wouldn't be associated with someone higher-up."
"But we've cycled through these a few times...If provincial, city, and county leaders aren't the ones, then who could it be?"
Heath Woods said, puzzled.
Dirk Carter sighed deeply.
He said, "Since we've gone over the key leaders' photos, let's expand the scope. Get photos from provincial, city, and county department heads, and have the two women go through it. I refuse to believe this so-called big leader could be a ghost!"
"But that would mean a lot of work."
Heath Woods said.
Dirk Carter was resolute, saying, "No matter the workload, it must be done. We cannot let this person get away with it!"
"Yes! I'll arrange it right now!"
Heath Woods nodded and went out.
Just as Dirk Carter pondered what to do next.
Suddenly.
His phone rang.
It was from an unknown number.
Calls from such numbers, Dirk Carter generally doesn't answer.
So, he didn't pay much attention and silenced the phone, placing it aside.
After ringing for several seconds, the call was disconnected.
Suddenly, there was a ding.
A text message arrived.
Dirk Carter instinctively picked up the phone and saw it was from the recent number. The content was brief: "I know where Polly Linden is."
Dirk Carter felt a jolt.
And quickly called back.
After two rings, the call was answered.
A dull voice said, "Hello, is this Dirk Carter, Secretary General Carter?"
"Who are you?"
"Who I am is not important. What matters is, I know where Polly Linden is. If you want to know, come alone to the abandoned market at Majestic Peak Town East Gate at nine tonight. If I find out you brought someone, then sorry, I won't show up."
After saying that.
The call was hung up.
Dirk Carter immediately called Elbert Rivers and Heath Woods in.
After recounting the phone call to them.
Heath Woods said, "I think it's a trap."
Dirk Carter nodded.
He said, "I also think it's a trap, but what is the purpose of this trap? And who set it up?"
"I think it's Farrell Lowell, trying to avenge his father."
Elbert Rivers said.
This explanation is, without a doubt, reasonable.
And it's the biggest possibility given the current situation.
After a moment of reflection, Dirk Carter asked, "Have you thought about one question, we haven't caught Farrell Lowell yet. If you were him, what would you want to do the most?"
"Flee! Flee! Escape to a place where you can't be caught!"
Heath Woods said without hesitation.
Dirk Carter nodded and said, "If you put anyone in this situation, their primary goal would be to escape, but now he's coming back to seek revenge on me. Do you think that's reasonable?"
