Chapter 38: Chapter 38: How to Make Up?
"I’ll help you wash the vegetables." Lu Lin saw the vegetables in Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand and stepped forward to take them.
Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at his outstretched hand indifferently and avoided it. "No need, I don’t need your help with this."
Lu Lin paused, and Lu Chen by his side suddenly sobered up.
Lu Chen looked at Fu Xiaoxiao; she had never been so cold towards them before, always accepting their help.
Noticing the strange atmosphere between Lu Lin and Fu Xiaoxiao, Lu Chen carefully tugged on Lu Lin’s clothes.
"Brother, did you make Aunt Fu angry?"
"...Yeah."
Lu Lin nodded sadly, not hiding it from Lu Chen.
Fu Xiaoxiao ignored Lu Lin and Lu Chen. After cooking the vegetable porridge, she first filled a lunch box, preparing to take it to Lu Feng later.
Then she filled a bowl for herself and began eating breakfast in the courtyard, completely unlike her caring manner of the previous days with the two children.
"...Let’s have breakfast first." Lu Lin glanced at Fu Xiaoxiao, went to the cupboard to get bowls for himself and Lu Chen, stood on the small stool they used before, and served porridge for himself and his brother.
"Aunt Fu, the food you make is so delicious!" Carrying the bowl to the courtyard, Lu Chen beamed and praised Fu Xiaoxiao.
"Hmm." Fu Xiaoxiao responded indifferently, not saying another word.
Lu Chen felt inexplicably wronged and looked at Fu Xiaoxiao pitifully.
Compared to her previously gentle and friendly demeanor, Fu Xiaoxiao’s current cold and distant manner left the two kids stunned, unable to accept her being so icy.
After drinking the porridge, Fu Xiaoxiao got up and returned to the kitchen without sparing them a glance.
Lu Lin felt complicated, gazing at Fu Xiaoxiao’s back. This was the scenario he had imagined of interacting with Fu Xiaoxiao, but realizing it now, he found he preferred the smiley Fu Xiaoxiao more.
"I’ll give you five minutes. We’ll leave in five minutes." Fu Xiaoxiao emerged, carrying the porridge for Lu Feng, checked her watch, and told the two children.
Startled, Lu Lin and Lu Chen quickly tried to speed up, drinking the porridge, but the freshly cooked porridge was too hot to swallow easily.
"Ow! Hot." Lu Chen was burnt a bit, instinctively looking to Fu Xiaoxiao, hoping for her concern.
But Fu Xiaoxiao only glanced at her watch indifferently and turned away, ignoring him.
It seemed she didn’t care about him at all.
Lu Chen’s eyes reddened with grievance.
Lu Lin sighed, patting Lu Chen’s shoulder. "Eat quickly and be careful of the heat."
"...Okay." Lu Chen responded sulkily, his imaginary tail drooping.
Heaven knows Fu Xiaoxiao nearly lost control. Despite being angry, she just wanted to give them a little lesson, making them realize what they might lose.
She treated them kindly, yet they deliberately made her walk for two hours. Initially, she thought it was unintentional, but Lu Lin suddenly apologized yesterday, which hurt Fu Xiaoxiao a bit.
To maintain peaceful interactions in the future, Fu Xiaoxiao decided to let them experience what it would be like if she were truly business-like, merely performing her duties.
On the way to the hospital, Fu Xiaoxiao walked ahead, while Lu Lin and Lu Chen followed behind, their usual enthusiasm absent.
"Brother, what do we do? Aunt Fu really won’t talk to us..." Lu Chen unhappily kicked at the roadside weeds.
"Weren’t you hoping for this earlier, that she’d leave us alone?" Lu Lin gave Lu Chen a glance and said calmly.
"But Aunt Fu isn’t a bad person... I like her, and now she doesn’t like me anymore." Lu Chen pouted, feeling wronged.
"We apologized to her, but she’s still angry." Lu Lin was helpless; he already apologized, but she said she wouldn’t forgive him... what else could he do?
"Why don’t we ask Mr. Lu later?" Lu Chen scratched his little head; he didn’t know what to do but suddenly remembered Lu Feng, thinking he, as an adult, would surely know how to appease Fu Xiaoxiao!
"Good idea." Lu Lin’s eyes lit up; how had he not thought of asking Mr. Lu!
The two kids found hope and quickly caught up with Fu Xiaoxiao.
Fu Xiaoxiao secretly glanced at them.
What could have made them so happy suddenly?
She brought them to the hospital room, where Lu Feng seemed to be having his bandages changed.
"Camp Commander Lu, should we wait for your partner to come and change the bandages in another area?" The nurse who had changed the bandages asked Lu Feng.
"...Yeah." Lu Feng paused for a moment and nodded.
He didn’t know if Fu Xiaoxiao would come today, and even if she didn’t, he understood.
"Mr. Lu." Lu Lin and Lu Chen, hearing Lu Feng’s voice, immediately rushed into the hospital room.
"Xiao Lin, Xiao Chen." Seeing the two children, Lu Feng gently patted their heads.
"Are you okay?" Lu Chen looked at the bandages on Lu Feng, and touched them tenderly. "Does it hurt?"
"It’s nothing, it doesn’t hurt." Lu Feng shook his head and chuckled. "Just a minor external injury."
"Then why isn’t Daddy being discharged?" Lu Chen puzzled. His father used to go home even with injuries.
"Your father still needs to be observed for a few days." Fu Xiaoxiao walked over with the porridge, explaining for Lu Feng.
Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, Lu Feng nodded to her.
"You’re here."
"The two kids wanted to come see you. This is vegetable porridge." Fu Xiaoxiao poured the porridge into a small bowl and handed it to Lu Feng.
After all, he always swallowed it and fussed over the slow feeding.
Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao’s entirely different attitude from yesterday, with no intention of feeding him, a trace of sadness flickered in Lu Feng’s eyes.
She really was angry.
After drinking the porridge, Fu Xiaoxiao took the empty bowl to wash.
"Talk to them; the two kids are really worried about you!" Fu Xiaoxiao said to Lu Feng, turning to leave the hospital room with the bowls.
"Mr. Lu." With Fu Xiaoxiao gone, Lu Chen gently tugged on Lu Feng’s clothes.
"Hmm? What’s wrong?" Lu Feng lowered his head, looking at Lu Chen.
"Do you know how to make someone who’s angry stop being angry?" Lu Chen asked eagerly.
"Who did you make angry?" Lu Feng paused; he wanted to know the answer to this question too.
"...We made Aunt Fu angry." Lu Chen glanced at the silent Lu Lin, telling Lu Feng about taking Fu Xiaoxiao on a two-hour trip to the supply and marketing agency on purpose.
"You really were wrong in doing this. Did you apologize to her?" Lu Feng’s heart sank; he didn’t expect the two kids to treat Fu Xiaoxiao this way.
No wonder she was angry.
"Brother already apologized to Aunt Fu yesterday, but Aunt Fu said... said..." Lu Chen looked at Lu Lin, not remembering what Fu Xiaoxiao said.
"She said that saying ’sorry’ doesn’t automatically lead to forgiveness." Lu Lin looked up at Lu Feng and said slowly.
"..." The father and sons exchanged glances, truly at a loss about what to do.
"Do you know how to appease Aunt Fu, Dad? Make her stop being mad at us. You don’t know; Aunt Fu didn’t smile at me today, was icy, and didn’t hug or pat my head." Lu Chen’s anxious eyes looked to Lu Feng, hoping for a way to mend relations.
But their hope was destined to be dashed because Lu Feng scratched his head, sheepishly saying, "I... I seem to have made her angry too."
"...Huh?" Lu Lin and Lu Chen widened their little eyes, incredulously looking at Lu Feng.
