"Hey." Song Hong lowered her head, seeming devoid of anger, as she got up to prepare to cook in the kitchen.

She had just stood up when she saw Lu Lin and Lu Chen standing at the door.

"Xiao Lin, Xiao Chen! How did you come here?" As soon as Song Hong saw Lu Lin and Lu Chen, there was only panic in her eyes.

"Who has come?" Zhang Dajun walked out upon hearing Song Hong’s words, frowning as he looked at Lu Lin and Lu Chen. "Who are these kids?"

"They are... the children I had with the previous man." Song Hong lowered her head, answering quietly.

"What? The children of your previous man?" Zhang Dajun’s face darkened upon hearing Song Hong’s words.

"How did you come? How did you find this place?" Seeing Zhang Dajun angry, Song Hong looked at Lu Lin and Lu Chen anxiously, showing only panic and no joy at their sudden appearance.

Seeing her attitude, Fu Xiaoxiao pursed her lips. Although she had prepared herself mentally, she hadn’t anticipated that Song Hong would display such a guarded expression upon seeing her own children.

"I brought them here." Lu Feng approached the door slowly with Fu Xiaoxiao, explaining to Song Hong.

"You are... Lu Feng?" Song Hong had seen Lu Feng a few times before. Recognizing him, she frowned.

"Have you gotten married?" Song Hong initially thought they were just coming to see her but upon seeing Fu Xiaoxiao next to Lu Feng, so pretty and young, she felt a pang of worry. Could it be that they think the two children are burdensome and want to return the kids to her?

"Yes." Lu Feng nodded lightly. "This is my wife, Fu Xiaoxiao."

Fu Xiaoxiao noticed Song Hong’s expression change dramatically, clearly treating her presence as if facing a major threat.

"I... I can’t take them in, you can’t throw these two children on me!" Song Hong didn’t wait for Fu Xiaoxiao to speak before pushing Lu Lin and Lu Chen toward the door.

Lu Lin opened his mouth, but the words he had prepared for so long in his heart could no longer be uttered at that moment.

Lu Chen, displeased, pursed his lips, visibly angry at their birth mother’s attempt to drive them away.

"Go back the way you came! I will absolutely not raise another man’s children, I don’t want boys!" Zhang Dajun said coldly, showing no welcome to them.

"I... I’ll send them back right away." Song Hong quickly pushed them again, using actions to demonstrate her lack of welcome. "You’ve seen it, I’ve remarried, and this man doesn’t allow me to bring someone else’s children. You should take them back! If you don’t want them either, then send them to the streets."

Song Hong’s words left Lu Lin and Lu Chen utterly disappointed.

Fu Xiaoxiao hadn’t expected a mother to utter such cold words, as those two children are her flesh and blood. Throwing them onto the street? How can a mother say such a thing?

"Are they really your biological children? How can you say such cold-hearted words?" Fu Xiaoxiao questioned. "Do you know what leaving them on the street means? Such small children are unlikely to survive through the winter!"

"That’s their fate! Nobody is to blame!" Song Hong said timidly, looking at Fu Xiaoxiao. "If you can raise them, why did you bring them to me? Isn’t it because you want to abandon them, too? You think the two children are a hindrance to you and Lu Feng, but they are also a hindrance to me."

"I’ve remarried now and have neither the energy nor the extra money to raise two children, especially when they’re not Zhang Dajun’s. He certainly won’t pay." Song Hong lowered her head as if everything was out of her control; she could only depend on others and lacked self-autonomy.

"Take the children back to where you came from, and don’t think about leaving them with my family! Go make dinner!" Zhang Dajun was very pleased with Song Hong’s sensibility, as he drove away Lu Feng and the others, then turned to Song Hong.

"Hurry up and go! Can’t you see I’m busy? Don’t cause more trouble." Song Hong turned back to Lu Lin and Lu Chen after speaking, turned again to obediently comply with Zhang Dajun’s words. "Coming, coming, I’ll cook right away."

Seeing her spineless appearance, Fu Xiaoxiao could only feel pitiful.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen looked at her for a long time. Lu Chen turned back, took Fu Xiaoxiao’s hand, and walked out. "Mom, let’s go!"

Lu Chen walked in front angrily. Fu Xiaoxiao knew he was upset and silently led him out of the village.

"I knew she’d be like that, she doesn’t like my brother and me." Lu Chen said, huffing and puffing.

"I like you both." Fu Xiaoxiao gently rubbed his head, comforting him.

Lu Lin gave Song Hong a deep look, but even the last trace of longing in his eyes vanished.

Lu Feng picked up Lu Lin and walked out with him.

Chen Xiu was an observer throughout, and couldn’t help feeling sad for the two children. "What a horrible mother, never seen such a selfish mom in my life!"

"Who are you? Why are you at my house door?" An elderly couple carrying farm tools saw Fu Xiaoxiao and the others coming from the house and immediately went up to question them.

"Mom, they were trying to leave the two kids at our place!" Upon hearing his mother’s voice, Zhang Dajun came out from the house at once, explaining the incident.

"How dare you! She didn’t say she had two children, only that her husband was dead; she didn’t mention there were kids! This Song family has fooled me!" Mother Zhang was furious upon hearing her son’s words.

Thought we’d marry an old woman and that’d be it, but it turns out she brings along two sons, half-grown boys who are just the age for growing up. How can we afford to feed them?

"Chase? You think everyone is as sordid as you imagined? Do you think we came here just to leave the kids with you? "You’re not here to leave the children with us?" Hearing Fu Xiaoxiao’s words, the Zhang Family finally realized that they were not abandoning the kids with them.

"You think your place is valuable? A house that collapses at the slightest wind, and you treat it like treasure. We came with good intentions to check on the children’s mother, yet you all started questioning us immediately! I feel it’s unfair for the two kids. Song Hong doesn’t deserve to be their mother!" I feel ashamed for ever speaking on your behalf! You simply don’t deserve such wonderful sons!" Fu Xiaoxiao pointed at Song Hong, giving her a thorough scolding.
