Chapter 217: A good husband never listens to his wife

Two nervous maids hurriedly pulled open the doors for Madam Li, bowing deeply as the Matriarch marched down the stone path, her purple silk robes violently whipping around her sexy thighs, and an annoyed frown on her beautiful face.

"Mother, wait a second," Gu Fan called out as he casually strolled right through the doors, helplessly following her into the quiet garden.

As soon as Madam Li walked into her courtyard, the temperature dropped and the maids and servants inside stopped whatever they were doing and stood perfectly still, with their heads down, not even daring to look at her.

Madam Li ignored everyone and waved her hand at the dozen or so maids standing nervously.

"Get out!" Madam Li snapped with a chilling, authoritative tone that left absolutely no room for negotiation, "Every single one of you, leave this courtyard immediately and do not return until I call for you!"

"Also take Young Master Fan with you."

The terrified maids didn’t even dare to breathe loudly as they quickly bowed their heads and quickly turned towards gu Fan.

"Young Master..." One of the maids barely managed to speak, looking at Gu Fam only to watch the young master to wave his hand with a smile and gesturing them all to leave.

And the maids were more than happy to oblige as they practically sprinted out of the courtyard, leaving the two of them entirely alone.

Gu Fan let out a heavy sigh as he watched Madam Li stand there without moving. He crossed his arms over his chest while he leaned casually against a stone pillar.

"Are you going to ignore your husband all day, or are you actually going to tell me why you are so angry with me?" Gu Fan asked, flashing an innocent, charming smile.

But Madam Li stayed quiet. Her expression was calm. Too calm. The kind of calm that made Gu Fan nervous.

Behind her, Gu Fan scratched the back of his head, "Li Huaaaa... My deeear... My daaaaarling..."

Madam Li finally looked at him and shot an angry glare over her shoulder, but her tightly pressed lips refused to say a word. And she again turned her back on him.

Since playing the innocent victim clearly wasn’t working, Gu Fan decided to switch to his absolute favorite tactic.

He activated his movement technique and instantly closed the distance between them, effortlessly wrapping his strong arms around her narrow waist from behind before she could even try to pull away.

He reached over and gently brushed a loose strand of hair away from her shoulder.

Madam Li didn’t stop him, but she didn’t look at him as well.

He lightly touched her hand, gently playing with her fingers, but he still could not get her to react.

"If you aren’t going to use that beautiful mouth to talk to me, then I guess I will just have to find another use for it," Gu Fan whispered right into her ear, deliberately pulling her body against his chest so she could feel his bulge rubbing against her plump ass.

Madam Li’s breath hitched as a highly familiar spark shot straight down her spine, but she stubbornly crossed her arms under her breasts and tried to stiffen her posture.

Gu Fan didn’t give up as he slowly trailed her fingers up and down her sides, firmly gripping her wide hips before sliding her upward to massage her soft twin peaks right over her dress that only added to the shiver she felt against his touch.

He almost laughed, "even now you refuse to even look at me?"

"They are certainly less troublesome."

"I honestly have absolutely no idea what you are talking about," Gu Fan lied effortlessly, though the cheeky grin on his face completely gave him away.

Madam Li closed her eyes as she took a slow deep breath, "You really intend to pretend you know nothing?"

"Don’t you dare play dumb with me, Gu Fan!" Madam Li finally lost her cool, pointing her delicate finger directly at his chest, "That goat! You had nothing to do with it?"

Gu Fan rubbed the back of his neck, "That depends..."

"Depends on what?" Madam Li narrowed her eyes.

"How angry you are." Gu Fan brazenly replied with a sheepish smile.

Her eyebrow twitched, "Very."

"Then no..." Gu Fan shrugged without hesitation.

Madam Li closed her eyes, "Gu... Fan..."

"Okay, fine," Gu Fan admitted, shrugging his broad shoulders as he tried to look as harmless as possible, "I might have orchestrated a tiny, little trap to teach my dear brother a lesson."

"A tiny trap?!" Madam Li threw her arms witth so much frustration that she wanted to beat the shit out of Gu Fan, "Are you seriously going to stand there and tell me it was a joke when you made him the town’s most disgusting joke?!"

"You completely destroyed his entire life! You annihilated his reputation for the rest of eternity! He is never going to be able to show his face in the southern regions ever again!"

The courtyard fell completely silent for a few breaths as Gu Fan looked at her furious face, and since he knew he was completely caught red-handed, he simply let out a helpless sigh.

"He was being incredibly annoying," Gu Fan argued defensively, stepping forward to justify his actions, "He barged into your courtyard, he completely disrespected you, he broke your favorite teacup, and he pointed a sword directly at my throat!"

"What was I supposed to do? Just let him act like he owns the place?"

"You could have just beaten him up! You could have broken his legs like a father does to his son" Madam Li yelled back, pinching the bridge of her nose as a massive headache throbbed behind her eyes.

"Do you have any idea how meticulously I have been planning his future for the past two decades?!" she demanded, stepping closer to aggressively poke him in the chest.

She let out a long, exhausted sigh.

"I spent years building relationships."

"I negotiated with my Li Clan."

"I gathered supporters among the elders."

"I slowly moved resources."

"I tolerated countless fools."

"I endured your father."

"I watched every step."

"I did everything in my absolute power to make sure Gu Bao would one day take over the Patriarch’s seat from that useless fool Gu Yangtian!"

Her voice suddenly turned low, but somehow sounded heavier than shouting.

"And then you appeared."

Gu Fan scratched his cheek, "In my defence..."

"There is no defence," Madam Li’s voice filled with frustration, "You ruined twenty years of my hard work in a single night by making him fuck a dirty barnyard animal in front of the whole fucking town!"

Gu Fan actually looked a bit sheepish as he listened to her rant, fully realizing that he hadn’t just destroyed his arrogant brother, but had also completely wiped out his mother’s long-term political pawn.

Maybe he should hjave discussed it with her first. But what could he have done? The opportunity just presented himself.

"I mean... I am technically the Patriarch’s son too," Gu Fan offered with a highly innocent, charming smile, trying to wrap his arms around her waist again, "Why don’t you just make me the Patriarch instead? I am much stronger, far more handsome, and you could practically live with me."

"Don’t try to charm your way out of this with your dirty mouth," Madam Li swatted his hands away, though her anger had noticeably lost some of its sharpest edge.

"Do you think I want my son to stand above your head? Is that why I want him to be the patriarch?"

"I would have maybe a few months back."

"But now?!" Madam Li took a deep breath and exhaled through her mouth looking defeated.

The courtyard fell quiet.

Gu Fan lowered his gaze, "I am sorry," He finally said.

Madam Li looked at him for several long moments, "I believe you."

"Really?" Gu Fan’s eyes shone in surprise. He did not think it would be so easy to get Madam Li to forgive him.

"I believe you are sorry," Madam Li said, walking past him Gu Fan, "I simply haven’t decided whether to forgive you."

"I honestly do not want to talk to you anymore today," Madam Li said, "I am going out to the town to clear my head, and I suggest you do not follow me."

"Mother, wait," Gu Fan called out, taking a step forward.

"I said do not follow me!" she said over her shoulder without looking back, "I don’t wish to continue this conversation."

"I will keep quiet."

But Madam Li just walked out of the door without stopping anymore.

"I promise not to mention goats," Gu Fan murmured as he watched Madam Li’s figure disappear.

He sighed dramatically, "So I really can’t come?"

Gu Fan stood there for several breaths.

"She is really angry." Gu Fan stood completely alone in the quiet garden.

"Well, I definitely screwed that one up," Gu Fan muttered to himself, scratching his chin as a determined smirk slowly replaced his guilty expression,

"But the thing is..."

"A good husband never listens to his wife."
