Chapter 271. Finding a cure for Lia - 1
Chapter 271: 271. Finding a cure for Lia – 1
William came out of his hut carrying the unconscious body of Lia. His steps were steady, but there was a faint tension in the way he held her, as if he was being extra careful not to drop the fragile life in his hands. Lia’s body was malnourished, like a stick.
He himself had just assimilated Rah’s Echo. Though it hardly affected his skin, a noticeable change was in the tips of his blue hair. The tips of his hair had turned ash black. The detail was clearly noticeable and stood out in a way that was difficult to ignore, especially under natural light.
To not make anyone suspicious, William tried to cut his hair. He did not want unnecessary attention when he returned to Aris. He called one of his slaves, who was a proficient barber, and got a haircut, hoping to trim the black-tipped parts, but his simplistic approach did not work.
His hair turned ash black from the tips again within a few moments, maintaining the mix of sapphire blue and graphite black. The transformation was almost immediate, leaving no room for adjustment.
Moreover, now that his hair was shorter, he had to get it trimmed into a proper outline if he did not want to look unkempt.
At the end of the barber session, he ended up getting a shorter haircut similar to those of boys in his age group, though the unnatural color remained evident.
[Congratulations, you are a man now]
“Your father must be a woman!!” William mocked back at the system while he carried Lia outside.
His tone carried mild irritation.
He carefully climbed down the steps and placed her body on the ground in front of Rah.
In the distance, William’s subordinates stood. Lingering sweat from all their initial fright was glistening on their foreheads as they watched the new creature from afar.
Their posture remained stiff, and none of them dared to move closer. There were visible frowns etched on their faces, reflecting both confusion and unease. Maris explained about Rah to them briefly, but that did not do anything to the amount of chills they felt looking at the abomination.
Meanwhile, Rah looked at Lia’s figure while William spoke from behind, “She was injected with the blood of Vykers continuously,” he said. His voice was calm, but there was a layer of concern beneath it.
Rah looked intently at Lia’s figure, examining her for a few seconds. His gaze moved slowly, as if he was trying to understand something deeper than what was visible.
A brief moment of silence spread across the whole realm, making the atmosphere feel heavier than before. Before Rah raised a finger of his hand and made a slight cut on Lia’s hand.
William got scared for a moment. “Be careful!! She is already on the verge of death.” His reaction was immediate.
Rah did not reply. He just looked at the gash from where blue blood dripped. Its color was similar to Vyker blood. The shade was distinct and unnatural when compared to human blood.
William also noticed this, and chills passed through his back as he observed the color of her blood, which was different from that of the normal natives of Aris. The realization was unsettling.
He remembered the day Lia had arrived at his doorstep. He was sure she was bleeding red blood at that time. That memory was still clear in his mind. This could mean only one thing. The color of her blood had changed over time, which indicated a gradual transformation.
“System, how much time does she have left??” His tone became more serious as he asked.
[Host, now that I have run a diagnosis, I can say a few months at most.]
William nodded with a grim expression. He looked at Rah for an answer.
Rah, meanwhile, was shocked. He turned to look at William.
“She is messed up. I can feel instinctively that she has started turning into a Vyker, yet she is not one. “”
“Her blood has changed completely. She neither feels like an otherworlder. I feel like she does not belong to any world.” His words reflected genuine confusion.”
William’s expression turned serious. “Do you think you can suggest a cure? Or should I try on my own??” His question was direct, as he did not want to waste time.
Rah shook his tail. “The only thing I will suggest is to find a way to stabilize her condition and avoid changing anything from the current state. Just find a way to make her live with what she has. Otherwise, she will die.” His tone was firm, indicating that the situation was delicate.
[I agree]
“What do you mean??” William asked the system. His brows furrowed slightly.
[Her DNA has been altered too much, and any more changes might kill her. She must be in a lot of pain.]
William gritted his teeth. “Couldn’t you tell me this before?” His frustration was evident, though he kept his voice controlled.
[I had no leads on what the energy was about. But now that I know about variance energy, I believe we should be able to cure her.]
[The problem with that blood is that it does not just contain infused variance energy but also years of evolved Vyker DNA. It is just a hypothesis, but there was a conflict in her body between the Vyker DNA and the human DNA, and it seems like the Vyker DNA won. Although not completely, since her human traits have not disappeared. Her internal organs remain human. Only her blood has changed, which is unusual, considering how everything is maintaining a balance.]
“So what should we do? I have checked the shop. Every item only seems useful for people who are users of variable energy. I see no item for someone in her state.” His concern was becoming more apparent.
[We have to think of something soon, host.]
Instead of providing a solution, the system was only adding to his concerns. William turned to look at Rah standing in front of him. His gaze moved carefully, as if he was trying to find a clue or inspiration from anything around him.
Just then, Rah’s figure shifted slightly, making the sunlight behind him reflect faintly on his black skin. The reflection caught William’s attention for a brief moment. As soon as William saw the sun in the sky, a sudden thought formed in his mind.
He remembered how Rah had reacted to the sunlight.
“Can we use stellar fire?” William asked. His tone carried a slight hint of urgency.
[What??]
Before the system could ask further, William conjured stellar fire on his palm. The flame appeared steadily, radiating bright and destructive energy.
With his other hand, he made a slight motion, and the corpse of the Vyker he had retrieved from Agrath, the late cult leader of the Clayman cult, appeared.
Rah looked at the corpse, and his eyes widened, but he said nothing. He simply observed William’s actions, waiting to understand his intent.
William retrieved a handful of blood from the corpse in a vial and immediately shot a spark of stellar fire over it.
The blood reacted instantly, the vial broke in two pieces, while the blood digested the flame in an instant as if it had found a meal.
Looking at such a reaction, William’s eye widened.
