Chapter 268: 268. A secret of the demon lords – 1
Rah’s voice turned cold. “Do not bring my mother into this!!!” he said, as if a weak nerve had been touched. The sudden shift in his tone was sharp, indicating something he had been trying to conceal.
William just looked at Rah coldly. His expression remained unchanged as he started speaking about his own past.
“A demon killed my mother in front of my eyes in the most brutal way possible. My brother’s heart was placed in my lap.”
William’s voice was deep and low as he stared at Rah with an intense stare.
“My father died at the hands of demons.”
“I lost all my kin.”
There was no tremble in his voice, no hesitation, only a firm declaration of truth that he had long accepted.
Listening to William’s words, Rah’s eyes widened. He had lost his own mother, and the way William spoke made him shudder. He remained silent, choosing not to speak for now.
The silence between them grew heavier, filled with unspoken understanding.
“There is no amount of time that can ever heal what I had lost that day. I do not know about you, but I will not stop going forward until I make the entire demon race pay for that day.”
The resolve in William’s voice was absolute, leaving no room for doubt.
“Whether you choose to serve me or not, it does not matter.”
“I will eventually kill your father and take over your tribe if I have to, just to gain the power that brings me closer to my revenge.”
His words were harsh, but they were spoken without anger, as if they were simply facts.
“I have the power to call flux, as you saw earlier. It will not be too difficult to do that again. The only reason I am not forcing my way here is that I am not the kind of person who kills mindlessly and enslaves the innocent against their will.”
A brief pause followed, giving weight to his statement.
“But that does not mean that my revenge is not my top priority. I am ready to sacrifice my principles sometimes to achieve it.”
“After all, my enemies do not follow any rules either.”
William concluded his words. He had made his stance clear, and whatever Rah’s decision would be, it would not change the truth. Rah stood silent. He realized that William was truly serious this time.
After a few minutes of introspection, Rah finally nodded. The internal conflict within him slowly began to settle as he started narrating his own story.
“My mother was a prisoner of war.”
His voice was quieter now, but it carried a deep, lingering pain.
“She belonged to the land-Vyker tribe.”
“Everyone in the tribe naturally hated me. From my childhood, I was told that I was unlucky to be born to her, that she was evil, manipulative, and responsible for the deaths of many clansmen.”
The memories surfaced one after another, each one etched deeply into his mind.
“They said she was vile and that she deserved the suffering she went through.”
“For most of my childhood, I grew up cursing her silently in my mind. I believed she was the reason for my misery. But with time, I realized that even my father was a vile and selfish Vyker.”
The realization had come slowly, but it had changed everything.
“To be honest, I do not know what to feel. Sometimes I feel bad for my mother.”
Confusion and regret were intertwined in his words.
“She was a victim of circumstances. She never wanted to give birth to a child of a winged Vyker. The way she looked at me with empty eyes, completely devoid of love.”
Rah spoke, looking blankly at the ground.
“But in her final moments, I saw her crying. She held me close and told me to live a happy life.”
“At first, I thought she was trying to manipulate me, just like everyone had told me about. But then she stopped breathing just moments later.”
“And it was too late. I was never able to talk to her. In fact, I had never really spoken to her even once as a child. My whole childhood with my mother had been ruined due to these bastards feeding me lies from the moment I was born. I was kept away from her for most of the time.”
The regret in his voice became more evident.
“The emptiness inside me will never disappear. I will never be able to ask her what she went through and what she endured as a prisoner for most of her life.”
Rah’s tail eye was now moist. It trembled slightly as tears streamed down, covering the surface of his tail.
The tears did not stop, flowing freely as if years of suppressed emotions had finally found a way out.
“So, when you said that you would kill my father… I wanted to pin you against the ground and warn you that no one is allowed to touch him.”
The intensity in his voice returned, this time mixed with a fierce determination.
“He is my prey, William, only my prey.”
“The only one who has the right to kill him is me.”
Each word was spoken with conviction.
“Even if you are the destroyer of worlds…”
“Even if you are the creator of universes…”
“You do not have the right to take my revenge away from me.”
“That is my destiny.”
Rah spoke firmly, “I will follow you if it means I can get my revenge.”
The decision had finally been made.
[Ding!! Do you want to place a mark of servant on individual ’Rah’?]
The system prompt appeared clearly before William.
William confirmed the choice and then looked at the crying Rah with a curious expression. “Weren’t you just telling me before that you have no thirst for revenge??”
Rah wiped his tears by rubbing his eye against his stomach before looking at William with renewed vigor. “I needed to test whether you really had a personal stake in all this, or if you were just one of those who say they will conquer the world and dominate everyone just because they wanted to be in power.”
His tone carried a sense of clarity now.
William’s brows raised as he chuckled. “What do you mean?? Are there people in your tribe who have ambitions of world domination?”
The idea seemed strange to him.
He found it strange since Rah belonged to a destroyed universe. What was the point of conquering a destroyed universe where they would hardly find anyone to rule over?
Rah shook his head. “There were a few otherworlders who visited before you. One of them called himself a Demon Lord and proudly declared that he wanted to reach the top and rule everyone below him.”
Then, as if trying to recall a distant memory, he added, “Oh yeah, he called himself Clayman.”
William looked at Rah with wide eyes. “Really?? What happened after that??”
Rah shrugged. “The dude got killed by one of my elder brothers.”
“What?? How?? I just defeated one of your elder brothers a few hours ago, then how are they strong enough to kill clayman”
Rah looked at William as if he were too ignorant and then said, “Well, i have hundreds of siblings and some are just too powerfull”
“Anyways, dude got revived at the end and might be plotting to take revenge” Rah spoke with a chuckle as if a demon lord was a mere kid.
